The mayor of Hyderabad is the head of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which is abbreviated as GHMC. The tenure for the post of GHMC is for 5 years. Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is the civic body that governs the city of Visakhapatnam, largest city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The position is held by Saikanth Varma. Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari (YSRCP) was elected as the Mayor and Jiyyani Sridhar (YSRCP) as the Deputy Mayor by the newly elected general body in March 2021. In January 2021, the number of wards were increased to 98 from 81 earlier.

The BJP made significant inroads into the GHMC, much at the loss of the TRS. After the results were declared, the TRS formed the government with outside support from the AIMIM.
Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is an Indian politician serving as the current mayor of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) since 11 February 2021. A former American citizen, she emigrated back to India to join politics and went on to become the fifth woman mayor of Hyderabad and the first post formation of the state of Telangana.

The 2016 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election was conducted on 2 February 2016 to elect members to all 150 wards of the municipal corporation. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi won a landslide victory of 99 wards, followed by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen which received 44 wards. The Indian National Congress, which was the single-largest party in the previous GHMC elections held in 2010, was decimated, winning only 2 wards.

These were the first elections since to the GHMC since its creation in 2007. About 43% of the 57 lakh voters cast their vote in the polls. The Indian National Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen formed the government in a post-poll agreement. Banda Karthika Reddy, corporator from Tarnaka became the mayor from the Congress Party and Toli Chowki corporator Jaffer Hussain became deputy mayor from AIMIM.
The Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) is a governmental body established in 1981 to oversee developmental projects in the Old City of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Initially created with the objective of revitalizing the Old City area by improving civic amenities and infrastructure, QQSUDA faced years of neglect and dormancy due to funding issues. However, in August 2021, the Telangana Government reactivated the authority, entrusting it with several projects aimed at restoring the heritage and promoting tourism in the Old City.
