The mayor of Hyderabad is the head of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation which is abbreviated as GHMC. The tenure for the post of GHMC is for 5 years. Currently the GHMC consists of 150 wards. Each ward is headed by a ward member and these elected ward members elect a mayor for the corporation. Gadwal Vijayalakshmi is the present "Mayor of Hyderabad" belonging to Bharat Rashtra Samithi [1]

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is the civic body that governs the city of Visakhapatnam, largest city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Its jurisdiction encompasses an area of 640 km2 (250 sq mi). It is also part of the planning body of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority. Established in the year 1979, the executive power of the GVMC is vested in the Municipal Commissioner, an Indian Administrative Service officer appointed by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. The position is held by Saikanth Varma. Golagani Hari Venkata Kumari (YSRCP) was elected as the Mayor and Jiyyani Sridhar (YSRCP) as the Deputy Mayor by the newly elected general body in March 2021. In January 2021, the number of wards were increased to 98 from 81 earlier.

Dharmapuri Arvind is an Indian politician who is the current Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad, Telangana. He played a first-class cricket match for Hyderabad in 1995/96. He is the youngest of two sons of D. Srinivas who served as a three time Congress MLA from Nizamabad.

Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi is an Indian politician currently serving as a Member of the Telangana Legislative Council since 2019. He is a member of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. He was corporator from Dabeerpura of GHMC.

The 2020 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election was conducted on 1 December 2020 to elect members to all 150 wards of the municipal corporation. The BJP made significant inroads into the GHMC, much at the loss of the TRS. After the results were declared, the TRS formed the government with outside support from the AIMIM.

The 2016 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election was conducted on 2 February 2016 to elect members to all 150 wards of the municipal corporation. The Telangana Rashtra Samithi won a landslide victory of 99 wards, followed by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen which received 44 wards. The Indian National Congress, which was the single-largest party in the previous GHMC elections held in 2010, was decimated, winning only 2 wards.

Local elections were held in the Indian state of Telangana in 2016 for 3 municipal corporations and 3 municipalities. Elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were held on 2 February 2016, Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation, Khammam Municipal Corporation and Achampet Municipality in March 2016, and Siddipet Municipality in April 2016.

Local elections in the Indian state of Telangana were held in 2020 for 11 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities. Elections for 9 municipal corporations and 120 municipalities were held on 22 January 2020. Elections for Karimnagar Municipal Corporation were held on 24 January 2022 whereas elections for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation were held on 1 December 2022.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">2009 GHMC election</span>

The 2009 Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation election was conducted on 23 November 2009 to elect members to all 150 wards of the municipal corporation. These were the first elections since to the GHMC since its creation in 2007. About 43% of the 57 lakh voters cast their vote in the polls. The Indian National Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen formed the government in a post-poll agreement. Banda Karthika Reddy, corporator from Tarnaka became the mayor from the Congress Party and Toli Chowki corporator Jaffer Hussain became deputy mayor from AIMIM.

The Quli Qutb Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA) is a governmental body established in 1981 to oversee developmental projects in the Old City of Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Initially created with the objective of revitalizing the Old City area by improving civic amenities and infrastructure, QQSUDA faced years of neglect and dormancy due to funding issues. However, in August 2021, the Telangana Government reactivated the authority, entrusting it with several projects aimed at restoring the heritage and promoting tourism in the Old City.
