Tarnaka is a major residential and industrial locality in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Tarnaka literally translates as "wired checkpost". In the local language (Hyderabadi) Tar means wire/cable and naka means check post. Tarnaka used to have a vineyard during the Nizams period. An area called Kimtee colony got its name from the vineyards called Keemthi Gardens. [1]
The former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Chenna Reddy was a resident of Tarnaka. St. Ann's school was a landmark few decades back; it was a white building, hence the area was also called "White House". Osmania university is located in this area.

The area was predominantly inhabited by locals. As time passed they moved out and the Mudaliars, [2] who were camp followers of the British, made immense contributions for the growth of education and health care. This explained the growth of the Secunderabad Club from a public room, [3] as stated by Narendra Luther, who is an authority in Hyderabad history. This area had big vineyards and every nook and corner was checkered with large trees.
Until the IT boom hit Hyderabad, this place was one of the most serene ones to reside, with large bungalows and villas. The huge mango, gulmohar, Ashoka and tamarind trees spread over the roads provided huge shadows and an extremely pleasant feel in hot summer.[ according to whom? ] Tarnaka was a well planned and organised place which old timers would swear. At turn of the new millennium — with IT revolution hitting hard with large influx of population and settlers — the area swelled with many more apartments and commercial buildings giving a complete new look. The tree canopy was so dense that people never needed to bother about shade in summer. Even today the area does have its trees and vegetation which may not be as dense but still has the glimpses of past. South Lallaguda is a nearby area, which together with the area around Mettuguda used to be known as Little England, due to cluster of an Anglo Indian community that primarily consisted of employees at the Secunderabad Railway carriage workshop.
Tarnaka is well connected by TSRTC and the Hyderabad Metro.
The shopping area has big shopping malls like Reliance Smart and corner grocery stores. Tarnaka has shops which cater to all possible needs. There is a cinema theater called Aradhana 70 mm, which is visited by Osmania University students and residents.

Secunderabad is a twin city of Hyderabad and one of the six zones of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in the Indian state of Telangana. Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics (CDFD) is an Indian biotechnology research centre, located in Hyderabad, India, operated by the Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. CDFD is a Sun Microsystems centre of excellence in medical bio-informatics, supported with a strong bioinformatics facility, and is the India node of the EMBnet. In addition, DNA fingerprinting and diagnostics services provided by the centre support some of the activities. The centre utilises the Combined DNA Index System for DNA profile matching. The CDFD and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation signed a memorandum of understanding in 2014 for the acquisition of CODIS.

He fought for a separate state beginning in 1952. He often stated that unequal distribution of river water was the root cause of the separate Telangana movement. He was the former Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University and an activist in the Separate Telangana Movement.
Kailasa Venkata Ramiah was an educationist from Andhra Pradesh, India. He was born in Pegallapadu village of Khammam district. He stood first-in-first in both B.Sc and M.Sc from Osmania University and grew to head the Physics Department of Osmania University. He is recipient of the Sir Akbar Hyderi Gold medal and several awards during his career both as student and later as an academician. He finished his PhD in record time and later his research was in quantum mechanics and Raman effect. He published about 100 papers in both national and international journals. He served to become the first Vice-Chancellor of Kakatiya University (1976–79). He founded the University from its inception. It was his vision and efforts that led to the development of Kakatiya University in a short period of time.
Mohan Rao Chintalagiri is an Indian molecular biologist renowned for his contributions to the fields of biophysics and molecular biology. He has earned international recognition for his work on molecular chaperones as well as his contribution to the field of photoacoustic spectroscopy in health and disease. He is currently a Senior Professor Emeritus and Head of the Department of Biological Sciences at the Hyderabad campus of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He is a former director of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and served as a CSIR-Distinguished Scientist. He received the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in 1999, the highest science honor in India.
Pushpa Mittra Bhargava was an Indian scientist, writer, and administrator. He founded the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, a federally funded research institute, in Hyderabad. He was outspoken and highly influential in the development of scientific temper in India, and argued that scientific rationalism needed to be cultivated as a civic duty.

He served as the Member of Telangana Legislative Council (MLC) for Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Mahabubnagar Graduates' Constituency from 2015 to 2021. He is also on the General Council of NALSAR University of Law.

P. Judson is an Indian Entomologist, who researched much on Dysdercus cingulatus in the 1970s. In the successive decades, he took to teaching of Zoology at Osmania University, Secunderabad, a State-run University u/s 2 (f) of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. He contributed much to the discipline of Entomology through scholarly articles in scientific journals (see section on writings). He was also a member of the Indian Society for Comparative Animal Physiology.
