Facilities

The present school building was created in 1958 and renovated in 1975 and 2006. The 1975-76 renovation changed the school from a campus of four buildings situated on a hill to one larger building that combined three of the four original buildings, plus the expanded shop building. The school's central feature is a ramp that leads from the varsity gym up to the cafeteria. The school stands at 140,486 square feet (13,051.6 m2) and enrolls approximately 902 students.

In sports, the school rivals Smithsburg High School and Williamsport High School in Washington County.

Academic recognition

Boonsboro High School was named in U.S. News & World Report 's annual listing of the Best High Schools in the United States, earning a Silver Award for test scores consistently above state and national averages. [1]

In 2013, Boonsboro was named as one of two high schools by the Maryland State Department of Education as a "Blue Ribbon School." Lefty Driesell

Charles Grice "Lefty" Driesell is a retired American college basketball coach. He was the first coach to win more than 100 games at four different NCAA Division I schools, Driesell led the programs of Davidson College, the University of Maryland, James Madison University, and Georgia State University. He earned a reputation as "the greatest program builder in the history of basketball." At the time of his retirement in 2003, he was the fourth-winningest NCAA Division I men's basketball college coach, with 21 seasons of 20 or more wins, and 21 conference or conference tournament titles. Driesell played college basketball at Duke University.

Cole Field House

The Jones-Hill House is an indoor collegiate sports training complex located on 14.5 acres (5.9 ha) of land on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, a suburb north of Washington, D.C. Jones-Hill House is situated in the center of the campus, adjacent to Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium, near Stamp Student Union and McKeldin Library. The building was constructed between 1952 and 1955 at a cost of $3.3 million and served for nearly 50 years as the home court of the Maryland Terrapins men's and women's basketball teams. A multi-phase, $196 million renovation commenced in 2015 to transform the capacity 14,956-seat basketball arena into a 356,000-square-foot (33,100 m2) sports and academic complex that includes an indoor practice facility and operations center for the university's football program, a sports science and sports medical research center, and an incubator for entrepreneurs. The facility was formerly named the William P. Cole Jr. Student Activities Building, commonly known as Cole Field House. In April of 2021, the facility was renamed in honor of Billy Jones and Darryl Hill, the first Black men to integrate basketball and football at Maryland, respectively.

A 2018 inductee in the Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame he is the longest active anchor in the Hampton Roads market and is known as much for his community service as his on-air career. He retired in February, 2022
