Borne is an Australian alt-rock band formed in Melbourne in 2003.

They released several EPs in their first 3 years of existence, but came to widespread attention only in 2007, when their single "The Guide" was featured as Single of the Week on a number of iTunes Stores worldwide, including the US store. iTunes took the unprecedented move of listing the free download worldwide. The band's debut onto the world digital stage was remarkable, soaring into chart high-points globally and resting at No. 13 in the US Billboard digital charts. [1] The band was last-minute inclusion at the 2007 South by Southwest Festival, in Austin, Texas, an annual event where hundreds of musical acts from across the globe are showcased. [2]

In 2006, one of the band's songs, Don't Go Now was featured during evictions on the Australian version of Big Brother.[ citation needed ] In the United States, The Guide was featured in the hit television program, Friday Night Lights. [3]

The band made 2007 its year of recognition in its own back yard, Australia. Borne raised eyebrows in the Australian music industry when it was promoted to the high ground of international recognition at the UK's big festivals, Hyde Park Calling [4] and Glastonbury. [5] It put the seal on 2007 when, from 5000 entrants, Borne took out the four most coveted awards at the MusicOz Awards 2007, the annual showcase event for independent Australian musicians. Borne won the Nova Initiative award; its lead singer Cameron Tapp received the award for best singer/songwriter. The band also won the Garth Porter Award and the major award, Artist of the Year. [6] Further international recognition of the band and its lyrical appeal to network television audiences came with the inclusion of "Don't Go Now" in the US, ABC super-series 'October Road'. [7]

Tapp Overseas Trip

On 13 June 2008, Cameron Tapp flew from Australia to perform "The Guide" for a wedding in Fargo, North Dakota. The wedding couple had heard the song on iTunes and attempted to find the sheet music online so that it could be performed at their nuptials. Having difficulty doing so (because Tapp does not read or write music), the couple emailed the band via their website, inquiring about the availability of the song. Tapp himself responded, jokingly saying the couple could fly him to the United States to perform at their wedding. The couple decided to skip their honeymoon and instead used the money saved for it (approximately US$3000) to purchase Tapp an airline ticket. [8] As of 2013, Borne is Cameron Tapp, the original founding member in 2007. He performs under the name 'Borne' when performing Borne songs live with a band of session musicians. Cam continues to write and licence songs under the 'Borne' brand name.[ citation needed ]

Crystal Castles Inactive Canadian electronic music group

Crystal Castles was a Canadian electronic music group formed in 2006 in Toronto, Ontario, formed by songwriter-producer Ethan Kath and singer-songwriter Alice Glass, who later left and was replaced by Edith Frances. Crystal Castles were known for their chaotic live shows and lo-fi melancholic homemade productions. They released many limited vinyl singles between 2006 and 2007 before releasing four studio albums between 2008 and 2016.

Cherry Ghost

Cherry Ghost were an English music group which began in 2006, first as an alias for singer-songwriter Simon Aldred as a solo artist, before morphing into a full band. Their debut album, Thirst for Romance, was released in July 2007 and entered the UK Album Charts at No. 7. It was nominated for an Ivor Novello award as well as winning Aldred an Ivor Novello for best song "People Help the People". A second album, titled Beneath This Burning Shoreline, was released in July 2010 to positive critical acclaim. Aldred, under the moniker Out Cold, released a solo album titled Invasion of Love in September 2013, featuring a markedly synthpop sound. Cherry Ghost released their third and final album Herd Runners in May 2014; Aldred last performed with Cherry Ghost in 2016 on the Marc Riley Show on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Dev Hynes British musician

Devonté Hynes, also known as Blood Orange and formerly Lightspeed Champion, is an English singer, songwriter, record producer and director based in New York City. From 2004 to 2006, Hynes was a member of the band Test Icicles, playing guitar, synth, and occasionally performing vocals. They released one full-length album in 2005. Hynes went on to release two solo studio albums as Lightspeed Champion and subsequently five more as Blood Orange, between 2008 and 2019.

They released their debut album Buildings on 22 March 2010 on Infectious Records and released their second album Unfaithfully Yours on 30 July 2012 on Dirty Hit.

Band of Skulls English rock band

Band of Skulls are an English rock band from Southampton, consisting of Russell Marsden, Emma Richardson, and Matt Hayward. The group formed after meeting in college, although Marsden and Hayward have been friends since high school. Eatliz is an Israeli alternative/progressive rock band formed as the serious outlet of Guy Ben Shetrit of punk rock band Infectzia in 2001. The band is known for its internationally awarded animation music videos and for reinventing itself in every live show. The band members themselves describe their sound as "complicated pop".
