Borteyman Sports Complex is a multidisciplinary sport center located in Borteyman, a suburb of Accra, Ghana. [2] It was commissioned by Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo, the President of Ghana on 13th February, 2024 ahead of the 13th Africa Games to be hosted in Ghana. [3]
Construction for the Borteyman Sports Complex begun in 2021. [4] Initially, the plan was to construct a 50,000 capacity stadium. These plans were shelved due to time constraints. [5] The cost of construction of the sports complex was $145 million [5] and could rise to $190 million if educational facilities are added, in a move to convert it into a University of Sports for Development after the Africa Games. [6]
The Borteyman Sports Complex can accommodate seven competitive sports, including table tennis, handball, tennis, volleyball, swimming, badminton, and the triathlon. [7]
It features a 1,000-seater capacity swimming pool, comprising a 10-lane competition swimming pool and an eight-lane warm-up swimming pool, alongside a multi-purpose Sports Hall capable of seating 1,000 spectators for various events such as basketball, badminton, netball, table tennis, and weightlifting. The Pokuase Interchange is a four level stack interchange situated at Pokuase Junction, in Accra, Ghana. It is the largest interchange in West Africa upon its completion. The interchange was originally a three-tier as proposed by the John Dramani Mahama in 2016 but was modified on the advice of the constructor by the Akufo-Addo administration to a four-tier thereby making it the largest in West Africa. Construction began in 2018 and was commissioned for use on 9 July 2021 by president Nana Akuffo Addo. It lies on the Nsawam Road and connects the Nsawam Road to the George Walker Bush Highway.
