The men's fours is one of the events at the annual Bowls England National Championships. [1]

Contents

History

From 1905 until 1914, the event was called the Charles Wood Australian Cup. [2]

During the 1908 final, the skip of the Upper Clapton team Mr H. Grounds collapsed and died during play. The title was awarded to Carlisle Edenside. [3]

The Scottish National Bowls Championships is one of the oldest bowls competitions in the world. In 1892 Mr James Brown of Sanquhar BC and Dr Clark of the Partick BC formed the Scottish Bowls Association and organised the first rink (fours) championship the following year at the Queen's Park Club, Glasgow.

The Irish National Bowls Championships combines Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Traditionally the game was played mainly in Northern Ireland but the Kenilworth Bowling Club of Dublin joined the Irish Bowls Association in 1906 which prompted the merger into one team. With the exception of the Commonwealth Games players continue to represent a combined Ireland team.
