Issake Dabore is a retired boxer from Niger who mainly fought in the light-welterweight and welterweight weight classes. Dabore competed at three Olympics; Tokyo 1964, Mexico City 1968 and Munich 1972. He was the first Nigerien person to compete at the Olympics and the first Nigerien to win an Olympic medal. Dabore won his Olympic medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics, where he won a bronze medal in the men's light-welterweight.

Francis Roy "Frank" Roberts was an Indigenous Australian boxer who competed at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics in the welterweight division. 'Honest Frank', as he was known, was the first Indigenous Australian Olympian, and was also the youngest boxer on the Australian boxing team. He resided in Armidale, New South Wales, and gave boxing lessons to local youths, until his death from a heart attack in February 2011.
The boxing tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo will take place from 24 July to 8 August 2021 at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan. On 22 May 2019, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that the International Boxing Association (AIBA) had been stripped of the right to organise the tournament, due to "issues in the areas of finance, governance, ethics and refereeing and judging". Boxing will instead be organised by an ad-hoc task force led by Morinari Watanabe, president of the International Gymnastics Federation.
