Bray Tower is a signal tower located on Valentia Island in County Kerry, Ireland. The tower was built in 1805 by the British Board of Ordnance during the Napoleonic Wars. It was one of 81 signal towers built between 1804-1806 along the Irish coast to communicate naval activity in response to a possible French invasion. [2] [3] The tower was abandoned sometime during the mid-1810s. [1]
Bray Tower was used as a Naval War Signal Station during World War I. [1]
In August 2020, the Kerry County Council submitted a proposal with An Bord Pleanála to preserve Bray Tower and construct a rooftop viewing platform. [4]
Bray Tower was included as a proposed addition to the Record of Protected Structures as part of the Draft Kerry County Development Plan 2022-2028. [5]
Bray is a coastal town in north County Wicklow, Ireland. It is situated about 20 km (12 mi) south of Dublin city centre on the east coast. It has a population of 33,512 making it the tenth largest urban area within Ireland. Bray is home to Ardmore Studios, and some light industry is located in the town, with some business and retail parks on its southern periphery. Commuter links between Bray and Dublin are provided by rail, Dublin Bus and the M11 and M50 motorways. Parts of the town's northern outskirts are in County Dublin.

Doe Castle, or Caisleán na dTuath, near Creeslough, County Donegal, was the historical stronghold of Clan tSuibhne, with architectural parallels to the Scottish tower house. Built in the early 15th century, it is one of the better fortalices in the north-west of Ireland. The castle sits on a small peninsula, surrounded on three sides by water, with a moat cut into the rock of the landward side. The structure consists mainly of high outer walls around an interior bawn with a four-storey tower-house or keep.
