Brendan Lynskey (born 7 May 1956 in Meelick, County Galway) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Meelick-Eyrecourt and was a member of the Galway senior inter-county team in the 1980s and 1990s. [1]

The cathedral of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Clonfert is located in Loughrea and is home to the Shrine of Our Lady of Clonfert. St Brendan's Park, known for sponsorship reasons as Grant Heating St. Brendan's Park, is a GAA stadium in Birr, County Offaly, Ireland. It is one of the main grounds of Offaly's Gaelic football and hurling teams. The ground has a capacity of 8,800. Prior to the development of O'Connor Park in Tullamore, the ground was the base of Offaly hurling and played host to intercounty competitions and to the Offaly hurling county final. Most Offaly games have since transferred to Tullamore. The stadium is named for the local patron saint Brendan of Birr, not to be confused with the more famous Brendan the Navigator.

Meelick is a townland on the River Shannon in County Galway, Ireland. It lies approximately 4 km southeast of the village of Eyrecourt. According to local sources, it is home to the oldest church still in use in Ireland having been given papal permission and built in 1414 AD. Meelick is also home to Meelick-Eyrecourt hurling club, which was founded in 1884. Meelick has a small pub which is known locally as "George's/The Shop". The area hosts a kayaking festival each year after the boating season halts in winter.

The 1887 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship Final was a hurling match that was played at Birr Sportsfield, Birr on 1 April 1888 to determine the winners of the 1887 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the first season of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, a tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association for inter-county hurling teams in Ireland. The final was contested by club representatives Thurles Blues of Tipperary and Meelick of Galway, with Tipperary winning by 1–1 to 0–00.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Victoria Lock (River Shannon)</span> Canal lock in Clonahenoge, County Offaly, Ireland

Victoria Lock, also known as Meelick Lock, is the first lock on the River Shannon upstream of Lough Derg, it is situated between Meelick, County Galway and Clonahenoge, County Offaly where the Little Brosna River enters the Shannon. It is very near the tripoint where the provinces of Munster, Leinster and Connacht meet. The lock is of architectural and technical interest and is listed on the Nation Inventory of Architectural Heritage, the dimensions are 142 ft x 40 ft. Thomas Rhodes on the instructions of the Shannon Commissioners constructed the lock in the 1840s as part of a widescale upgrade of the Shannon Navigation. The lock is still in use today by pleasure craft, both private and fleets of rental cruisers who use the River Shannon and the connecting canals. A second lock, Hamilton Lock is also located nearby but is now disused.

Meelick Martello Tower is a Martello tower constructed on Moran Island in the River Shannon between Meelick, County Galway and Clonahenoge, County Offaly. The tower was built about 1811 to protect the river at Meelick rapids where there is a fording opportunity. It was feared at the time that the French would invade Ireland from the west coast. Unusually the tower is cam-shaped with three gun emplacements. It reinforced the existing defences at Keelogue Battery on Incherky Island.

The Galway Intermediate Hurling Championship is an annual hurling competition organised by the Galway County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association and contested by the top-ranking intermediate clubs in the county of Galway in Ireland. It is the second tier overall in the entire Galway hurling championship system.

The 2019 Galway Intermediate Hurling Championship was the 61st staging of the Galway Intermediate Hurling Championship since its establishment by the Galway County Board in 1949. The championship began on 5 April 2019 and ended on 3 November 2019.
