Brendan Joseph McArdle (born 2 March 1952) is a former Australia first-class cricketer. McArdle played as a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium-fast. He was born in Melbourne,Victoria.
McArdle made his first-class cricket debut for Victoria against South Australia in the 1976–77 Sheffield Shield. He made 10 further first-class appearances for Victoria,the last coming against Tasmania in the 1978–79 Sheffield Shield. [1] An all-rounder,McArdle scored 339 runs at an average of 30.81. He made three half centuries,with a high score of 78. [2] This came against South Australia on debut. [3] With the ball,McArdle took 13 wickets at a bowling average of 43.00,with best figures of 3/40. [4] An infrequent player for Victoria,the 1978–79 season was his last for the state.
In the early 1980s,McArdle played for a number of teams in the Lancashire League as a professional. [5] He also played for Staffordshire County Cricket Club,making his debut against Hertfordshire in the 1984 Minor Counties Championship. [6] He made his List A cricket debut for the county against Gloucestershire,scoring 37 runs. [7] McArdle continued to feature in the Lancashire League,returning to Staffordshire to play his second and final List A match against Glamorgan in the 1989 NatWest Trophy. [8]
Sydney Francis Barnes was an English professional cricketer who is regarded as one of the greatest bowlers of all time. He was right-handed and bowled at a pace that varied from medium to fast-medium with the ability to make the ball both swing and break from off or leg. In Test cricket,Barnes played for England in 27 matches from 1901 to 1914,taking 189 wickets at 16.43,one of the lowest Test bowling averages ever achieved. In 1911–12,he helped England to win the Ashes when he took 34 wickets in the series against Australia. In 1913–14,his final Test series,he took a world record 49 wickets in a Test series,against South Africa.
Henry Francis Lambert was an Australian first-class cricketer who represented Victoria in the Sheffield Shield and the Commonwealth XI from 1946 to 1954. He also played Australian rules football during the 1940s with Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
