Bridget Degnen (born September 6,1972) is an American politician serving as a member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners representing the 12th District. She was elected to the position in 2018. The 12th District is entirely within the city of Chicago,representing parts of the city's North Side and Northwest Side.
Degnen was born and raised in the Edgebrook neighborhood on Chicago's northwest side. In 1994,she graduated from University of Dayton with an engineering degree,having majored in environmental engineering and minored in industrial engineering. Following two years of service in the United States Peace Corps in Mali,West Africa,she returned to Chicago and earned her Juris Doctor from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. [2]
Degnen was elected to the Cook County Board of Commissioners following the 2018 Election after defeating incumbent Commissioner John Fritchey in the March 20,2018 primary election. [3] She was unopposed in the November 6,2018 general election.

John Alden Fritchey IV is a former Democratic Cook County Commissioner of the Cook County Board of Commissioners who represented the 12th district in Chicago from 2010 until 2018 and was a Democratic State Representative in the Illinois House of Representatives,representing the 11th District in Chicago from 1997 to 2010. He additionally served as the elected Democratic Committeeman for Chicago's 32nd Ward from 2008 to 2012. According to the Arab-American Institute,Fritchey was one of the longest-serving Arab-American officials in the United States. He is presently President of F4 Consulting,Ltd. In 1998,he created the John Fritchey Youth Foundation,designed to create educational and recreational opportunities for local children through the sponsorship of academic and sports programs. He has additionally supported the Chicago Special Olympics as a repeated participant in the annual Polar Plunge. He presently serves on the Board of Directors of Chicago Gateway Green,a non-profit,public-private partnership dedicated to the greening and beautification of Chicago's expressways,gateways and neighborhoods through landscape enhancement,litter and graffiti removal and the installation of public art.

Bushra Amiwala is a Memon Pakistani-American college student at DePaul University who,as of April 2019,is the first Gen Z elected official in the United States,and the youngest Muslim elected official in the United States. Amiwala was a Democratic candidate for the Cook County Board of Commissioners in the 2018 Illinois primary election. She lost to the then 16-year incumbent Larry Suffredin in the Democratic primary election on March 20,2018. Suffredin then encouraged Amiwala to run for public office shortly after she announced her candidacy for D73.5 Board of Education,and was elected in April 2019. Amiwala also became the first Muslim person elected to the board of education seat in her district. In February 2020,Bushra Amiwala was awarded the Asian American Coalition of Chicago (AACC) award for exemplary community service and youth excellence. Bushra Amiwala is known for hosting annual Ramadan Iftar events,which have been attended by notable politicians,including J.B. Pritzker.
