The Third Republic was the planned republican government of Nigeria in 1992 which was to be governed by the Third Republican constitution. In the Third Republic, there were democratically elected state governors and state assemblies and a democratically elected federal legislature. The republic was however not fully democratic as there was no democratically elected civilian president. The then military president Ibrahim Babangida's supposed transition eventually turned out to be a ploy to keep executive powers and grant the National Assembly limited legislative powers. Hence all laws passed by the Senate and House of Representatives will have to pass the National Defence and Security Council of Nigeria and finally approved by the President. So while Babangida changed the usual style adopted by preceding military leaders from Head of State to President, he will continue to postpone presidential elections and eventually annul the ultimate one held on 12 June 1993. The Third Republic can thus be described as half military and half civilian.

After taking his seat in the Senate in June 1999, Ararume was appointed to committees on Communications, Police Affairs, Federal Character, Finance & Appropriation, Information and Niger Delta.
Hope Odidika Uzodimma is a Nigerian politician who serves as governor of Imo State since 2020. On 14 January 2020, the Supreme Court of Nigeria declared Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the 2019 governorship poll in Imo State, nullifying the election of the then-incumbent governor Emeka Ihedioha.
Chukwuemeka Ihedioha ; born 24 March 1965) is a Nigerian politician and businessman who served as governor of Imo State from 2019 to 2020. He was removed from office on 14 January 2020, by the Supreme Court of Nigeria which declared the APC candidate the authentic winner of the 2019 gubernatorial election. The 2019 Imo State gubernatorial election in Nigeria occurred on 9 March 2019. PDP's Emeka Ihedioha polled 38.29% of the total votes, defeating AA's Uche Nwosu who got 26.66% of popular votes, and several minor party candidates. Out of 27 LGAs, Ihedioha won in 11, while Nwosu won in 10.

The 1979 Imo State gubernatorial election occurred on July 28, 1979, in Nigeria. NPP's Samuel Onunaka Mbakwe won election for a first term to become Imo State's first executive governor leading and, defeating main opposition, NPN's Collins Obi, in the contest.
The 2023 Nigerian gubernatorial elections were held for state governors in 31 out of 36 Nigerian states. All but three elections were held on 18 March—concurrent with elections to every state house of assembly, three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections—while the Imo State, Kogi State, and Bayelsa State elections will be held on 11 November. The last regular gubernatorial elections for all states were in 2019. All states have a two term limit for Governors which makes 18 incumbent governors ineligible for re-election.
The 2023 Kogi State gubernatorial election was held on 11 November 2023 to elect the Governor of Kogi State. Incumbent APC Governor Yahaya Bello was term-limited and could not seek re-election to a third term in office. The primaries were scheduled for between 27 March and 17 April 2022.
The 2023 Enugu State gubernatorial election took place on 18th March 2023, to elect the Governor of Enugu State, with Peter Mbah declared winner alongside his running mate Barrister Ifeanyi Ossai of the Peoples Democratic Party (Nigeria), after they got the plurality of votes and won over 25% of the votes in two-third of the state. Mr Mbah polled 160,895 votes to defeat his closest challenger, the Labour Party (Nigeria) candidate, Chijioke Edeoga, who scored 157,552 votes. The candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Frank Nweke Jr, garnered 17,983 votes to come a distant third, while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Uche Nnaji, placed fourth, with 14,575 votes. The election was contested in the Tribunal by Chijoike Edeoga but the tribunal eventually upheld the victory of Peter Mbah.
The 2023 Bayelsa State gubernatorial election took place on 11 November 2023 to elect the Governor of Bayelsa State. Incumbent PDP Governor Douye Diri won reelection. The primaries were scheduled for between 27 March and 17 April 2022.
The 2023 Imo State gubernatorial election was held on 11 November 2023 due to the belated inauguration of incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma, to elect the Governor of Imo State. Incumbent APC Governor Hope Uzodinma was re-elected, with him winning all the 27 local government areas. LP candidate Athan Achonu has filed a lawsuit against Uzodinma claiming that the election was "marred by irregularities, including vote buying and physical assaults of LP agents, and thus deserving of outright cancellation".
