Brijeshwar Singh (born 22 September 1968), is a writer, poet and theatre promoter based in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, India. [1] [2] [3] [4] His patronage and promotion of theatre through the Rang Vinayak Rang Mandal theatre repertoire and the annual theatre festival being organized in his own Windermere Theatre [5] [2] [3] [4] [6] earned him the U.P. Sangeet Natak Academy award for 2020. [7] [8] His Daya Drishti Charitable Trust helps children born with thalassemia avail regular and lifesaving transfusions. [2] [6] His second book 'Next Patient, Please' was released on 26 March 2022. [9] [10] [11] He was featured among top 75 personalities of Rohilkhand region of Uttar Pradesh by Amar Ujala. The list was published on the 75th foundation day of the newspaper. [12]

Early life

Singh was born on 22 September 1968 in Lucknow to Rajendra Bahadur Singh and Gayatri Devi. His father was an officer in Provincial Services. In Lucknow, Brijeshwar was educated at City Montessori School. [13] Later, his father was transferred to Bareilly where Brijeshwar studied at Government Inter College (GIC). He completed his higher studies from King George's Medical College (now known as King George's Medical University), [14] Lucknow and Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College (GSVM), Kanpur. [13]

Theatre promotion

Brijeshwar fell in love with theatre during his days at New Delhi when a friend introduced him to the play "Tumhari Amrita" starring Farooq Sheikh and Shabana Azmi. [2] [8] [1]

When Brijeshwar came back to Bareilly, he established a theatre repertoire and named it 'Rang Vinayak Rang Mandal' (RVRM). [13] [6] He is the founder and director of RVRM. [3]

In 2009, Brijeshwar Singh built a black box theatre at Bareilly. [13] [15] The auditorium is called Windermere Theatre. [16] [8] [2] [17] [6] [18]

Brijeshwar Singh is the organizer of the Annual Windermere Theatre Festival at Bareilly. [5] [14] [17] [6] [19] He has organized 13 editions of the festival. [18] [20] [13]

Brijeshwar's patronage and promotion of theatre earned him the U.P. Sangeet Natak Akademi award for 2020. [7] [8] [13]

Brijeshwar Singh has started offering grants to upcoming talent in theatre. It is called the 'Windermere Theatre Grant'. The 14th National Windermere Theatre Festival will also be organized in 2023. [21]

On 13 June 2023, the Governor of Uttar Pradesh Anandiben Patel felicitated Brijeshwar Singh with the prestigious UPSNA Award for his exemplary contribution to theatre promotion. Playwright, Author & Poet

Brijeshwar wrote his first book, In & Out of Theatre: Heart-Warming Vignettes from Beyond the Operation Theatre, in 2014. [2] [14] [17] [28] The book was published by Supernova Publishers. [18]

Brijeshwar Singh is also a playwright. He has written two plays titled 'Paladin' and 'Zindagi Zara Si Hai'. [17] [15]

He has recently completed his second book Next Patient, Please . [29] Which was published on 26 March 2022. [9] [10] [11] [18]

Brijeshwar Singh also writes poems in Hindi. His story, "Keh do Gunjan!" was published in India Today's annual literature edition, 2019. [1] "Next patient, please" has been showcased at the World Book Fair 2023. [21]

Philanthropy

Brijeshwar Singh founded Daya Drishti Charitable Trust. The charitable organization helps children born with thalassemia avail regular and lifesaving transfusions. [19] The trust also offers free medical services to the underprivileged. [2] [30] Brijeshwar Singh has also been providing expert advice on major incidents related to thalassemia. Recently, he talked to an online media platform regarding the Nagpur (Maharashtra, India) incident where four thalassemic kids got infected with HIV because of unsafe blood transfusion. [31]

Some of Gulati's works promote various social causes. In 2019, he created a portrait of each of the 44 soldiers who died in the then-recent Pulwama attack.

Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan also known as UP Hindi Sansthan is an autonomous organisation in Uttar Pradesh, working for the promotion of Hindi language. It is run under the Department of Languages, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

On 15 February 2023, 25-year-old Nasir and 35 Year old Junaid were allegedly kidnapped by Bajrang Dal members who are known as Gau Rakshak on suspicion of cow smuggling in Nuh district of Haryana, India. They were brutally beaten, then put in a car and burnt alive. They died hand in hand on the spot. The incident came to light after photos of the lynching went viral on the social media. The police investigating the case later dropped murder charges against the accused Bajrang Dal members. Nasir and Junaid belonged to Ghatmika village of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan.
