The Broadway Historic District or Honky Tonk Highway is a historic district located in Nashville, Tennessee. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Davidson County, Tennessee (NRHP) in 1980.

History

Between 1870 and 1900 Broadway became a political and commercial center. [1] The district is located between 2nd Avenue and 5th Avenue on Broadway Street in Downtown Nashville. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places listings in Davidson County, Tennessee on July 18, 1980. [2]

The area has become a tourist destination welcoming families in the daytime and adults over 21 years old in the evening. The district is lined with Honky-tonks including Legends and Tootsie's Orchid Lounge. The street is also referred to as "Honky Tonk Highway". [3] The district includes parts of Lower Broadway to 2nd Avenue and it attracts many tourists and residents. [4] It has become one of Nashville's most popular tourist destinations. [5]

The Louisville and Nashville Turnpike was a toll road that ran from Louisville, Kentucky to Nashville, Tennessee during the 19th century. From Louisville, one route now designated US 31W ran through Elizabethtown, Munfordville, Glasgow Junction, Bowling Green, and Franklin before crossing into Tennessee. In Tennessee, the route would continue through Portland, Cross Plains, Millersville and Goodlettsville before going into Nashville. The other route ran through Bardstown, Buffalo, Glasgow, and Scottsville and is currently named US

Eighth Avenue South Reservoir is a man-made masonry reservoir in Nashville, Tennessee. The reservoir was built on Kirkpatrick's Hill which was the former site of Fort Casino: a Union Army fort in the American Civil War. Completed in 1889, it ruptured in 1912 causing much property damage, and was repaired in 1914. In 1978, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places listings in Davidson County, Tennessee (NRHP). The reservoir is the largest and oldest working reservoir supplying water to the city of Nashville, and remains in use as of 2022.
