Broken Teeth (also known as Broken Teeth HC) were an English hardcore punk band formed in Manchester in 2007. The band have released one studio album and four EPs.

History

Adam Kelly and Dale Graham formed Broken Teeth in 2007, with Kelly having only begun playing drums that year. They performed their first show three weeks later with Dave Egan on guitar, performing music inspired by the sound of the late–1990s Merauder. In 2012, the band released the Ain't No Rest for the Wicked EP through Reality Records, followed by a U.K. headline tour with support from Survival and Splitcase in April. In May 2012, they opened for Backtrack on their U.K. headline tour then opened for Survival on their European headline tour. [1] In April 2014, they opened for Your Demise. [2] On 5 May 2016, they released a full-length album, At Peace Amongst Chaos, through Nuclear Blast Records. [3] In June 2016, they opened for Testament on their U.K. headline tour. [4] [5] In August 2016, they opened for Sick of It All on their U.K. tour. [4] On 6 October 2016, they played Sound and Fury Festival in Los Angeles. [4] In January 2017, they set out on a headline tour of Europe in support of At Peace Amongst Chaos. [6] On 30 April 2017, they played at Outbreak Festival in Leeds. [7] On 13 August 2017, the band played the Ronnie James Dio stage at Bloodstock Open Air. [8] In January 2018, they took part in the 2018 Persistence Tour with Hatebreed, Terror, Madball, Power Trip and Born from Pain. [9] In June 2019, they opened for Hatebreed on their 25th Anniversary U.K. tour. [10]

Musical style

The band has been categorised as hardcore punk, [8] [11] [12] metalcore, [11] [13] [14] crossover thrash [6] [1] and heavy hardcore. [15] James Christopher Monger of AllMusic described their music as "employing a lethal mix of politically and socially charged punk, brutal hardcore, and furious metalcore", [11] while Thomas Strater of Metal Hammer, likened their sound to the album Master Killer by Merauder. [13] Their music makes use of thrash metal riffing and heavy hardcore stylised breakdowns. [16] They have cited influences including Terror, [17] Merauder [1] and Testament. [4]

New York hardcore grew out of the hardcore scene established in Washington, D.C., by bands such as Bad Brains and Minor Threat. Initially a local phenomenon of the 1980s and 1990s, New York hardcore eventually grew to establish an international reputation with little to moderate mainstream popularity but with a dedicated and enthusiastic underground following, primarily in Europe and the United States. With a history spanning over more than four decades, many of the early New York hardcore bands are still in activity to this day. Some of them have been continuously or almost continuously active since their formation as well as having reunion shows.

Full Blown Chaos is a metalcore band from Floral Park, Queens, New York. According to the band, their whole direction "is to keep a wide range of music, not to necessarily pigeonhole ourselves into metal or hardcore". They are well respected in the New York scene, and are generally considered to be a part of the New York Hardcore movement.

Trapped Under Ice is an American hardcore punk band from Baltimore, Maryland that was formed in 2007. Since then they have released an EP and three full-length albums. Taking influence from New York hardcore, the band has toured all over the world and was signed to Reaper Records. On August 11, 2013, Trapped Under Ice played its last show at Philadelphia's The Electric Factory at This Is Hardcore Festival 2013. The band announced their reunion in early 2015. In 2017 they released their third LP, Heatwave, on Pop Wig Records.

Hardcore 4 The Coldhearted is the double CD album by American hardcore punk and hip hop artist Danny Diablo. It was released on August 29, 2008, via Countdown Records.

Beatdown hardcore is a subgenre of hardcore punk with prominent elements of heavy metal. Beatdown hardcore features aggressive vocals, gang vocals, heavy guitar riffs and breakdowns and lyrics discussing unity, brotherhood, volatile interpersonal relationships and machismo. The genre has its origins in late 1980s New York hardcore bands such as Breakdown, Killing Time and Madball, and was pioneered in the mid-1990s by bands like Bulldoze, Terror Zone and Neglect. The definition of the genre has expanded over time to incorporate artists increasingly indebted to metal, notably Xibalba, Sunami and Knocked Loose.

Nueva Ética is an Argentine metalcore band formed in Buenos Aires in 1998. They follow the vegan straight edge philosophy and are one of the first Latin American hardcore punk bands to tour the world. Nueva Ética's music has been described as a mix of Hatebreed and Terror.

Higher Power are an English hardcore punk band formed in Leeds, West Yorkshire in 2014. They have released two full-length studio albums, one EP, one live album and one demo. Their second album, 27 Miles Underwater, was their major label debut through Roadrunner Records. In a 2020 poll by Revolver magazine, they were voted the most likely contemporary band to breakthrough into the mainstream. They are a part of the New Wave of British Hardcore.
