Brooks Headley is an American musician and chef, best known as the drummer in several hardcore punk and indie rock bands.
Headley was the executive pastry chef at Del Posto, a New York Times -rated four-star restaurant, in New York City. [1] [2] He left Del Posto to open a vegetarian burger restaurant, Superiority Burger.
Headley played drums in the Baltimore-area hardcore/emo band Universal Order of Armageddon from 1992 to 1994. With Universal Order of Armageddon bandmate Tonie Joy, he also joined the final lineup of the political hardcore band Born Against in 1993.
Later that year, he moved to Richmond, Virginia, and co-founded the group (Young) Pioneers, with whom he remained for several years. Through the remainder of the 1990s, he had brief stints in Men's Recovery Project and The Great Unraveling, followed by more extended time in Skull Kontrol and Wrangler Brutes.
Headley has formed the band Oldest with guitarist Mick Barr of Orthrelm. [3] Additionally, he is active with Universal Order of Armageddon, who again began performing in 2010.
In 1999, Headley earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland, where he was a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. [4]
In May 2013, Headley won the prestigious "Outstanding Pastry Chef" from the James Beard Foundation for his work at the New York restaurant, Del Posto. In 2019, Headley was nominated for the James Beard Foundation Award "Best Chef: New York City" for Superiority Burger. [5]
Born Against was an American hardcore punk band from New York active between 1989 and 1993. In addition to their radical leftist politics, the group espoused a DIY punk message and challenged what they perceived as being a problem within the punk subculture of their time. Though Born Against received little media exposure while still together, they have since been described as "legendary" by the Chicago Reader and the LA Weekly.

Sam McPheeters is an American artist, journalist, novelist, and performer. Raised in Albany, New York, he became a published author at age 12, with Travelers' Tales, a collection of regional folklore. In 1985, McPheeters grew active with the hardcore punk scene, producing several fanzines and organizing local concerts. After moving to New York City in 1987, he co-founded Born Against in 1989 and the Vermiform Records label in 1990. The group's post-modern absurdist musical attitude resulted in a diverse and consistently obtuse output, with varied material touching on electronic, avant garde, comedy and spoken word motifs that often alluded to their roots in hardcore punk.

The media awards are presented at a dinner in New York City; the chef and restaurant awards were also presented in New York until 2015, when the foundation's annual gala moved to Chicago. Chicago will continue to host the Awards until 2027.

(Young) Pioneers was an American folk punk band from Richmond, Virginia, active from 1993 to 1999. Composed of members of such influential bands as Born Against, Avail and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, they released two albums and numerous singles on Vermiform and Lookout! Records. An overtly political band, their lyrics ranged from "superfluous nods to radical heroes like George Jackson and Carlos the Jackal" to "describ[ing] the relationship between struggling individuals and the machinery of oppressive politics".
