Brothers of Metal are a Swedish power metal band from Falun, formed in 2012. The band's visual style and lyrics are inspired by Vikings and Norse mythology, and are often purposefully over-the-top, which earns them both criticism and praise. [1]
Brothers of Metal was formed in 2012 with a vision to create "true metal", when a night of drinking led to the creation of their first song, Son of Odin. [2] The band self-released their debut album Prophecy of Ragnarök in April 2017. It was re-released in November 2018 via AFM Records. [3]
The bands second album Emblas Saga was released on January 10, 2020 via AFM Records. [4] Prior to the Album release, the three singles Njord, One and Brothers Unite had been released. In support of the new album, the band went on a European tour titled The Pagan Thor Tour 2020 in January, co-headlining with Italian folk metal band Elvenking. [5] Throughout 2020 and 2021, the band released music videos for multiple songs featured on Emblas Saga. [6] [7] [8]
In March 2022, the band released the single The Other Son of Odin. [9]
Following the lift of all COVID-19 restrictions in Sweden, Brothers of Metal played their first show in more than two years in Stockholm on March 27, 2022. [10]
In summer 2022, the band played at Wacken Open Air for the first time.
In September 2022, Brothers of Metal toured the UK and Ireland as support for British power metal band Gloryhammer for their Fly Away Tour 2022. [11]
In December 2022, the band released a lyric video for new single Berserkir. [12]
In early 2024, Brothers of Metal supported Gloryhammer and Beast in Black on their Glory and the Beast double headline tour in Europe. [13]
On June 21, 2024, the band released a music video for the song Heavy Metal Viking, [14] the first single of the upcoming album Fimbulvinter, which was announced on the same day. [15] A lyric video for the single Nanna's Fate was released on August 16, [16] and on September 27, the band released a music video for the title track of the upcoming album,. [17] [18]
On August 30, 2024 German medieval metal group Saltatio Mortis released the single Fire and Ore, which featured all three Brothers of Metal vocalists. The release was accompanied by a lyric video. [19]
The band's third studio album, Fimbulvinter, was released on November 1, 2024 via AFM Records. [20] The album includes The Other Son of Odin and Berserkir, which were originally released as singles back in 2022.
For a long time, the band was an eight-piece consisting of three vocalists (two male, one female), three guitar players, a bass player, and a drummer.
In August 2023, it was announced that guitarist Mikael Fehrm would leave the band due to medical issues. [21] He had not been playing live shows for some time. Even after his departure, the band still acts as an octet on stage, with Christian Larsson added as live guitarist. [20] He had been playing shows as replacement for Fehrm since March 2022.
The members of the band dress as Viking warriors, both on stage and in most music videos. Their roles are humorously described on the bands website as follows:
Manowar is an American heavy metal band from Auburn, New York. Formed in 1980, the group is known for lyrics based on fantasy and mythology, as well as numerous songs celebrating the genre and its core audience. The band is also known for a loud and emphatic sound. In an interview for MTV in February 2007, bassist Joey DeMaio lamented that "these days, there's a real lack of big, epic metal that is drenched with crushing guitars and choirs and orchestras... so it's nice to be one of the few bands that's actually doing that". In 1984, the band was included in the Guinness Book of World Records for delivering the loudest performance, a record which they have since broken on two occasions. They also hold the world record for the longest heavy metal concert after playing for five hours and 1 minute in Bulgaria in 2008. They also have been known for their slogan "Death to false metal".
Amon Amarth are a Swedish melodic death metal band from Tumba, formed in 1992. The band take its name from the Sindarin name of Mount Doom, a volcano in J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Leaves' Eyes is a symphonic metal band from Germany and Norway. Formed in 2003 by Liv Kristine, formerly the lead singer of Theatre of Tragedy, along with the entire line-up of Atrocity, the band has since released eight studio albums, a single, six EPs, one live album, and a DVD.
Týr is a Faroese folk metal band. They have been characterised as one of "the islands' two most successful metal bands". Their subject matter revolves almost entirely around Viking lore, mythology, and history, taking their name from Týr, the god of war in Norse religion.
The Norse mythology, preserved ancient Icelandic texts such as the Poetic Edda, the Prose Edda, and other lays and sagas, was little known outside Scandinavia until the 19th century. With the widespread publication of Norse myths and legends at this time, references to the Norse gods and heroes spread into European literary culture, especially in Scandinavia, Germany, and Britain. In the later 20th century, references to Norse mythology became common in science fiction and fantasy literature, role-playing games, and eventually other cultural products such as Japanese animation. Storytelling was an important aspect of Norse mythology and centuries later, with the rediscovery of the myth, Norse mythology once again relies on the impacts of storytelling to spread its agenda.

The band was formed in 1999 by lead singer Joakim Brodén, bassist Pär Sundström, guitarists Oskar Montelius and Rikard Sundén, and drummer Richard Larsson, but has gone through multiple lineup changes with Brodén and Sundström remaining the only consistent members. Their core lineup, with the exception of the drummer, has remained consistent since Householder replaced original guitarist Brandon Cagle in 2007. Founded in 2006 by Bozeman and Savage, the band has released eight studio albums and fourteen music videos, and it's currently signed to Metal Blade Records. Whitechapel's 2010 album A New Era of Corruption, sold around 10,600 copies in the United States in its first week of release and debuted at position No. 43 on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2014 the band released their fifth full-length album, Our Endless War to generally positive reviews. The album sold roughly 16,000 copies in its first week and debuted at No. 10 on the Billboard 200. They released their sixth full-length album Mark of the Blade in 2016 to greater critical acclaim, selling roughly 8,000 copies in the first week of its release.
