Bruce Black (born 20th century) is an American sound and acoustic engineer.

He is known for his work as a sound re-recording mixer, acoustical engineer, and lecturer on audio acoustics. In 2022, he designed the Dolby Atmos studio for sound engineer Paul Massey.

Career

Black began work as an audio engineer and acoustical designer in 1970 constructing a sound system for his band. He continued in live and theatrical sound.

In 1979, Black took a position working with Deane Jensen of Jensen Transformers. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

From 1985 to 1986, Black was the audio supervisor on television episodes of The Dick Cavett Show . In 1992, he was stage engineer on the horror film Candyman , directed by Bernard Rose with score by Philip Glass ^[4] and in 1993, stage engineer with Skywalker Sound on the drama film Bodies, Rest & Motion .

Black continued working both freelance and on staff for companies including Skywalker Sound, DreamWorks, Warner Brothers, Sony Pictures Entertainment. Black worked at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a post-production sound engineer in film and television. ^{[5] [6]}

In 2022, Black designed the Dolby Atmos mix room for re-recording mixer Paul Massey. ^{[7] [8] [9]} The Audio Engineering Society hosted a presentation of Black's case study on designing Massey's Atmos mix room, also featured in Mix magazine as an eight-part series. ^{[7] [10]}

His written works have appeared in journals and magazines, including Mix , Recording , The Editors Guild Magazine and the Cinema Audio Society Quarterly . ^{[1] [3] [11]}

Black is a lecturer, often appearing at Audio Engineering Society (AES) conventions. ^{[12] [11] [7]} In 2018, Black was a presenter at the AES New York Convention at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. ^{[13] [14] [15]} In 2023, Black was a presenter at the 154th AES Europe Convention at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland. ^{[16] [17]}
