Bubble is a scripted science fiction podcast produced by Maximum Fun and created by Jordan Morris and Jesse Thorn. The podcast was later adapted into a graphic novel published by First Second Books.

Background

The podcast was created by Jordan Morris and Jesse Thorn and produced by Maximum Fun. [1] The podcast focuses on a town called Fairhaven, which is situated inside a protective bubble surrounded by wilderness. [2] The protagonist of the story is a woman who grew up outside the bubble named Morgan. [3] Morgan teams up with two guys and starts killing monsters that have gotten inside the bubble for a contracting company. [4] The show is an eight episode satirical science fiction podcast with a sitcom style delivery. [5]

Becca James wrote in BuzzFeed News that the podcast is as "addictive as it is absurd." [6] Laura Jane Standley and Eric McQuade wrote in The Atlantic that the "sound engineering is appropriately cartoonish." [7] Megh Wright wrote in Vulture that the podcast "gets funnier the deeper you go." [8] Apple Podcasts included the show on their list of the best podcasts of 2018. [9] Cory Doctrow wrote in Boing Boing that the podcast is "hilarious." [10] Nicholas Quah wrote in NiemanLab that the podcast is "super zany." [11]

Adaptations

The graphic novel is 272 pages long. [12] The graphic novel was published by First Second Books and written by Jordan Morris and Sarah Morgan. [13] The art is done by Tony Cliff. [14] The graphic novel was published on July 13, 2021. [15] Publishers Weekly gave the graphic novel a starred review, saying that the book is a "recklessly fun, hoot and holler of a ride". [16] Caitlin Rosberg wrote in The A. V. Club that "some of the references aren't exactly evergreen". In 2020, Sony Pictures Animation announced that an animated film adaptation was in development, [21] [22] with Morris set to write the script. [23] Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, who previously worked on Sausage Party , signed on to produce through their company Point Grey Pictures, [24] [25] alongside Matt Tolmach. [26] James Weaver, Kyle Hunter, David Manpearl, Ariel Shaffir and Morris were announced as executive producers. [27]

<i>The Boys</i> (comics) American superhero comic book series

The Boys is a comic book series, written by Garth Ennis and co-created, designed, and illustrated by Darick Robertson. The first volume was published by WildStorm, who canceled it after six issues; the series was picked up by Dynamite Entertainment, which published the following eight volumes. Debuting in October 2006, the series concluded in November 2012 after 72 issues were published. In the fourth volume, the series is revealed to be set in the same fictional universe as Ennis' previous 1995–2000 DC Vertigo series, Preacher, with former vampire Proinsias Cassidy cameoing as a bartender. Three 6-issue spin-off limited series were also produced during the series' original run: Herogasm, Highland Laddie, and Butcher, Baker, Candlestickmaker, with an 8-issue epilogue series, Dear Becky, published from January–December 2020.

Superbad is a 2007 American coming-of-age teen buddy comedy film directed by Greg Mottola and produced by Judd Apatow. The film stars Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as Seth and Evan, two teenagers about to graduate from high school. Before graduating, the boys want to party and lose their virginity, but their plan proves harder than expected. Written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, the script began development when they were 13 years old, and was loosely based on their experience in Grade 12 at Point Grey Secondary School in Vancouver during the 1990s. The main characters have the same given names as the two writers. Rogen was also initially intended to play Seth, but due to age and physical size this was changed, and Hill went on to portray Seth, while Rogen portrayed the irresponsible Officer Michaels, opposite Saturday Night Live star Bill Hader as Officer Slater.

Gregory Tiernan is an Irish-born, Canadian-based animator, director and voice artist. Along with his wife Nicole Stinn, he founded Nitrogen Studios Canada, Inc. in 2003, through which he introduced CGI to the Thomas & Friends series. Prior to this, Tiernan collaborated on various projects with filmmaker Don Bluth, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Klasky Csupo, Inc. Nitrogen Studios was purchased by Cinesite and he now works for them.
