Schalk Burger Geldenhuys (born 18 May 1956) is a South African former rugby union player. [1]

Career

Throughout his career he played for only one province, Northern Transvaal. Geldenhuys played 184 matches for Northern Transvaal and also captained his province 54 times.

In total, he played in seven tests for the Springboks and scored one try. His first test was as flanker on 29 August 1981 against the All Blacks at Athletic Park, Wellington. His seventh and final test occurred on 2 September 1989 against a World XV side at Ellis Park, Johannesburg.

Playing on the flank, Ellis was instantly recognisable on the field due to his red hair and uncompromising playing style. Among three Springboks invited to participate in the first unofficial rugby sevens world cup in 1973, he was ranked in 2003 as the 12th greatest Springbok of all time.

Dietlof Siegfried Maré was a South African international rugby union player. Born in Wellington, he attended Huguenot College before playing provincial rugby for Transvaal. He made his only Test appearance for South Africa during their 1906–07 tour of Britain, Ireland and France. He played as a forward in the 1st Test of the tour, a 6–0 loss to Scotland at Hampden Park. Despite breaking two fingers after six minutes, he played the entire match. Off the field, he wrote the first handbook on rugby ever to be published in Afrikaans. In 1913, in Pretoria, Maré was killed in a car accident at the age of 28. As a result of the accident his wife used a wheelchair.
