Recreation
The park offers many recreation facilities, including miniature golf, a carousel, a miniature train, an ice cream parlor, a fishing pier, campgrounds, and numerous playgrounds and picnic areas. [2] Around the lake is a 4.68 mile (7.53 km) unpaved trail that is suitable for both cyclists and pedestrians.
There is a marina, where visitors can rent boats to take on the water. There is also a conventional boat launch where visitors can launch their own boats. Gasoline-powered motors are prohibited, however. [3]
Additionally, the park has a par-3 disc golf course, which was constructed in 1979. [4]
The park also has a famous 2.98-mile (4.80 km) high school cross country race course. The park hosts many Conference and Regional level races, while also holding the historic Monroe Parker Invitational. [5]
Non-residents of Fairfax County must pay a per-vehicle fee to access the park on weekends April through October. There is never a fee for county residents. [6]
Stansbury Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in Tooele County, Utah, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 9,851, up from the 2010 figure of 5,145.
Burke is an unincorporated section of Fairfax County, Virginia, United States, traditionally defined as the area served by the Burke post office. Burke includes two census-designated places: the Burke CDP, population 42,312 in 2020 and the Burke Centre CDP, population 17,518 in 2020.
Paris Landing State Park is an 841-acre (3.4 km2) state park located on the western bank of Kentucky Lake in Buchanan, Henry County, Tennessee.
Fort Yargo State Park is a 1,816-acre (7.35 km2) U.S. state park located in Winder, Georgia, situated between Athens and Atlanta. The park is located 1 mile south of Winder and is accessible by Georgia State Route 81. There is a 260-acre (1.1 km2) lake with a public beach. Available activities at Fort Yargo include GeoCaching, hiking, mountain biking, disc golf, boating, lake swimming, fishing, picnicking, and miniature golf. The park also features a log fort built in 1792 by settlers, for protection against the Creek and Cherokee.
Rockland Lake State Park is a 1,133-acre (4.59 km2) state park located in the hamlets of Congers and Valley Cottage in the eastern part of the Town of Clarkstown in Rockland County, New York, United States. The park is located on a ridge of Hook Mountain above the west bank of the Hudson River. Included within the park is the 256-acre (1.04 km2) Rockland Lake.
Lake St. Clair Metropark/Metro Beach Metropark is a 770-acre unit of the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system located roughly 20 miles (32 km) northeast of downtown Detroit, Michigan in Harrison Township, Macomb County. Lake St. Clair Metropark has been in existence since 1950 and has seen many changes since then. Originally named St. Clair Metropolitan Beach, it was renamed in 1953 to Metropolitan Beach Metropark and later shortened to Metro Beach Metropark. On December 8, 2011, the Board of Commissioners for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks approved changing the name to Lake St. Clair Metropark. The park is located at Jefferson Avenue and Metropolitan Parkway and there are signs to Lake St. Clair Metropark on Interstate 94 (I-94).
The Huron–Clinton Metroparks system is a regional park system in Metro Detroit in the U.S. state of Michigan. The park system includes 13 parks totaling more than 24,000 acres (97 km2) arranged along the Huron River and Clinton River forming a partial ring around the metro area. Plans are in development to finish the ring by building hike/bike trails to connect all the parks as a green belt. The parks draw about 7.5 million visitors a year, down from a peak of 10 million in 2009. The park system is primarily tax-funded with a $50 million annual budget. The system provides employment for 200 full-time and part-time employees year-round and 1,000 additional summer workers. The rivers are prime fishing and canoeing streams with Delhi Metropark including a short rapids, which while runnable, is the only point other than dams on either stream normally portaged.
George P. Cossar State Park is a public recreation area in the U.S. state of Mississippi located on the shores of Enid Lake, five miles (8.0 km) northeast of Oakland off Mississippi Highway 32.
Oak Mountain State Park is a public recreation area located approximately 20 miles (32 km) south of Birmingham in the northeast quadrant of the city of Pelham, Alabama, United States. It is the state's largest state park at 9,940 acres (4,020 ha) and is home to the Alabama Wildlife Center, Oak Mountain Interpretive Center, and Oak Mountain BMX Track. Park activities include hiking, running, mountain biking, swimming, camping, fishing, horseback riding, and golf. The park is managed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Three Rivers Park District is a special park district serving the suburban areas of the Twin Cities including suburban Hennepin, Carver, Dakota, Scott, and Ramsey counties. Three Rivers's mission is "To promote environmental stewardship through recreation and education in a natural resources-based park system." Three Rivers operates twenty parks and ten regional trails, with at least two more regional trails planned. Nearly seven million people visit Three Rivers facilities each year. It has over 27,000 acres (11,000 ha) of parks and trails.
Burke Lake is a 218 acres (88 ha) freshwater reservoir in Fairfax Station, Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It is contained within Burke Lake Park, a Fairfax County public park owned by the Fairfax County Park Authority (FCPA). Burke Lake is formed by a dam on South Run, a tributary stream of the Potomac River.
Shelby Farms is a public park located in Shelby County, Tennessee, United States, in East Memphis. It is one of the largest urban parks in the US and the world, at a size of 4,500 acres (1,800 ha) and covers more than five times the area of Central Park in New York City with 843 acres (341 ha).
Warriors' Path State Park is a 950-acre (3.84 km2) Tennessee State Park in Colonial Heights, Tennessee, an area within the city of Kingsport. It is named for the Great Indian Warpath that was used by the Iroquois in war raids with the Cherokee and other tribes. The park is located around the Fort Patrick Henry Reservoir and Duck Island on the South Fork Holston River. This land was acquired from the Tennessee Valley Authority in 1952.
Greenleaf State Park is located near Braggs, Oklahoma, and is situated around the 930-acre (3.8 km2) Greenleaf Lake. Greenleaf Lake was built in 1939. There is an 18-mile (29 km) hiking trail that begins inside the park and makes its way around Greenleaf lake and into the adjacent government land of Camp Gruber.
Fremont Central Park is a 450-acre (180 ha) manmade park in the central area of Fremont, California on Paseo Padre Parkway at Stevenson Boulevard. It is accessible from I-880 and I-680. It began development in 1960, and contains Lake Elizabeth, a shallow 83-acre (34 ha) man made lake surrounded by picnic areas, sports fields, and walking and biking paths. The lake was dedicated to Fremont's sister city, Elizabeth, South Australia in 1969. A nine-hole golf course and driving range is northeast of the park, while a skateboarding park and water slide swimming facility are southwest. The ecosystem and area around the park promotes diverse flora and fauna. Fremont Central Park is traversable on foot, and can be accessed by public roads. Much of the park was once the Stivers Lagoon and is part of the Laguna Creek Watershed.
Eugene T. Mahoney State Park is a public recreation area located on the Platte River, off Interstate 80, approximately four miles (6.4 km) east of Ashland, Nebraska. The state park features lodging and conferencing facilities, an aquatic center, marina, multi-purpose trails, the Kountze Memorial Theater, multiple facilities for event rentals, and a 70-foot (21 m) observation tower overlooking the Platte River Valley.
The former Arrowhead State Park, now known as the Arrowhead Area at Lake Eufaula State Park is a 2,200-acre (8.9 km2) Oklahoma state park area located in northern Pittsburg County, Oklahoma on a peninsula of Eufaula Lake. It is located near the city of Canadian, Oklahoma. Eufaula is one of the largest man-made lakes in the southwest. Arrowhead State Park features 100 tent sites and 91 total RV sites. The park also offers picnic shelters, a marina, playgrounds, trails, miniature golf course, swimming area, mountain biking, equestrian campground, stables, and 25 miles (40 km) of equestrian trails. Group camps with a kitchen and bunkhouses are available and can sleep up to 144 people. Area 51 Marina, which also offers a restaurant, is also located at the park in the Echo Ridge area.
The Club/Lake Gaston Resort is a private, camping and recreational vehicle resort, located on the shores of Lake Gaston in South Central Virginia. The resort is in the NE quadrant of the lake known as Pea Hill Creek.
County Center is a census-designated place in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. The population as of the 2010 Census was 3,270. In 2021, the United States Census Bureau estimated it to be 4,045. It is notable for including the county's McCoart Government Center off Prince William Parkway, along with adjoining Pfitzner Stadium, former home field of the Potomac Nationals, now the Fredericksburg Nationals.
Sequoyah State Park, one of Oklahoma State Park's 32 parks, is a 2,200 acre peninsular recreation space on the eastern shore of Fort Gibson Lake in Cherokee County, Oklahoma. It is 8 miles (13 km) east of Wagoner, Oklahoma and 18 miles (29 km) west of Tahlequah, Oklahoma on State Highway 51. A shortleaf pine-lined drive leads you to the many amenities of the park including camping loops, Paradise Cove Marina, a golf course, Three Forks Nature Center, Sequoyah Riding Stables, and the state's largest state park lodge. There are 12 miles of hiking trails free and open to the public including the Fossil Trail, Bluebird Trail, and Scissortail Paved Trail.
