Bussetti was a London-based band who were active between 2001 and 2007. Their style was a mish-mash of genres, including hip hop, funk, jazz, indie and pop.

During their career, as well as playing at venues all over the UK, they performed at several music festivals, including the 2003 and 2006 Big Chill festivals, [1] [2] and the 2004 Dour Festival [3] in Belgium.

They released two 12" singles, Softly (2003) [4] and The Itch/Debussetti (2004) [5] and an album - Where Have You Been (2007). [6]

Their work has been remixed by artists such as Four Tet and Xploding Plastix.

They split up in June 2007. [7]

History

Bussetti were formed in 2001 in London by a group of musicians who had all met at university. They named themselves after the former landlord of two of the band, who was subsequently murdered in 2002. [8] Their early influences were Lamb, Red Snapper and The Cinematic Orchestra.

They had a varied line-up (see below), and performed regularly in London and around the UK.

Softly

The band's début 12" single, Softly, featured a remix by Four Tet, plus instrumental and a capella versions. Produced by band members Dan Edge and Henry Scowcroft, it was recorded at the Premises studios in Hackney, London, in 2003, and released on the band's own (now-defunct) label, Realise Records.

The Itch/Debussetti

Their second single was a 'double-A' side, featuring tracks The Itch and Debussetti. It was also released on Realise Records.

The Story So Far

Prior to the release of Where Have You Been (see below), the band pulled together all their material to date and released it as a free CD, given out at gigs. [9] The track listing was:

Where Have You Been

In 2007, the band released a full-length CD album, Where Have You Been. Produced by the band, and mixed and mastered by Ben Spektor, it was recorded at various locations including The Premises in London, and featured guest appearances by double bassists Tim Pharaoh and Omri Chetrit, and session percussionist Preston Heyman.

The album was released at Bussetti's farewell gig, at the Luminaire in London, [10] on 9 June 2007. It can currently be streamed from SoundCloud. [11]

Other material

Bussetti contributed mixes to Ninja Tune's Solid Steel radio show, [12] [13] and did remixes for Canadian Downtempo artist Verbrilli Sound [14] and UK musician Jon Kennedy. [15]

They placed a collection of remixes done for the band, together with unreleased live and instrumental tracks, on SoundCloud. [16]

In December 2011, their single Debussetti was featured by Tom Robinson on BBC6 Music's Introducing show. [17]

The live band revolved around a core of five, supplemented by various others. The initial line-up was:

Prior to the departure of Humble and Price, the band was joined by saxophonist Nick Atkins and scratch DJ Nick Flugge. In 2005, drummer Oli Bird moved to LA and was replaced by Dor Kelman. In later years, trombophonist Jamie Fagg, harp/clarinetist Kat Arney, synth player Rui Teimao, and VJ Mark van der Vord played with the band. The 2011 line-up included The Chemical Brothers, Kanye West, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Jessie J, Robert Plant, Calvin Harris, Neneh Cherry, Aloe Blacc, Chipmunk, Katy B & Example. The festival has not been staged since 2011.

Kieran Hebden, known as Four Tet, is an English electronic musician. He came to prominence as a member of the post-rock band Fridge before establishing himself as a solo artist with charting and critically acclaimed albums such as Rounds (2003), Everything Ecstatic (2005) and There Is Love in You (2010). In addition to his twelve studio albums as Four Tet, Hebden's work includes a number of improvisational works with jazz drummer Steve Reid and collaborations with Burial and Thom Yorke.

Third is a live and studio album by the English rock band Soft Machine, released as their third overall in June 1970 by CBS Records. It is a double album with a single composition on each of the four sides, and was the first of two albums recorded with a four-piece line-up of keyboardist Mike Ratledge, drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt, saxophonist Elton Dean, and bass guitarist Hugh Hopper. Third marks a shift in the group's sound from their psychedelic origins towards jazz rock and electronic music.

Fridge was an English instrumental post-rock band formed in 1995 by school friends Kieran Hebden, Adem Ilhan (bass) and Sam Jeffers (drums). Their rhythm heavy sound was influenced by Krautrock bands such as Can and Neu!, while critics view their early works as following similar paths as the contemporary post-rock groups Tortoise and Do Make Say Think. Over time Hebden's interest in Techno and Drum and bass became predominant, supported by Jeffers' complex drum patterns.

Silent Alarm Remixed is the remix album to Silent Alarm, the debut album by British indie rock band Bloc Party. It was released on 29 August 2005 in the British Isles on Wichita Recordings, the band's primary label, and on 13 September 2005 in the United States through Vice Records to coincide with Bloc Party's worldwide touring schedule. The record peaked at number 54 on the UK Albums Chart. In the US, it achieved a peak of number four on the Billboard Top Electronic Albums.

Temposhark was an English electronic rock band, formed in London and Brighton by singer-songwriter Robert Diament and one-time music producer Luke Busby. Temposhark were best known for their songs "Bye Bye Baby", "Joy", "It's Better To Have Loved" and "Not That Big", a duet with singer Imogen Heap which appeared on their 2008 debut album, The Invisible Line. In Lingua Mortua is a Norwegian band formed by Lars Fredrik Frøislie in 1999 at Hønefoss, Norway. The music can be described as a mixture of 1970s progressive rock and black metal, and vintage instruments like the Mellotron, Chamberlin, Minimoog, Clavinet and Hammond organ are used frequently, as well as saxophone, bass clarinet, steel guitar, Ludwig drums and Rickenbacker bass.

Echaskech are a British electronica / audio-visual act based in London. The band formed in 2004 and were originally a duo composed of Dom Hoare and Andy Gillham, who had previously worked together as a drum & bass DJ act touring with artists such as LTJ Bukem and Grooverider. Early in 2005 the music duo became a multimedia trio with the addition of visual artist Mach V, who provides visuals during live performances and whose prior work includes music festivals such as The Big Chill and a collaboration with Sounds from the Ground that exhibited at Tate Britain. Also in 2005 Echaskech performed along with Jon Hopkins at various events in London and as a result Jon introduced the band to Just Music who subsequently signed them.

The Slips are a UK electronic music duo, composed of David Treahearn and Rob Haggett. James Cooper is the duo's live drummer and regularly DJs in The Slips' Australasian club sets. The duo formed the band in Kentish Town in London, mid-2007 after they met while working together as studio engineers at Olympic Studios in London with artists including Madonna, Björk, The Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani, New Order, Oasis and Massive Attack.

<i>The Chill Out Sessions</i> 2012 EP by Bring Me the Horizon and Draper

The Chill Out Sessions is the second EP by British rock band Bring Me the Horizon. It consists remixes made by British electronic music producer Draper. After being initially planned to be released on New Year's Day 2012 it was delayed indefinitely by Bring Me the Horizon due to their label situation. However it was released on 22 November 2012 as a free download. The remix EP makes use of Draper's own music style named "chill-step" or "liquid-step" as a homage to his ambient, relaxing take on dubstep music.
