The Butler County Warbirds is a non-profit organization located at the Middletown Regional Airport in Middletown, Ohio focused on military aviation history.
The Butler County Warbirds was founded in 2000 by Sandra Arany, Timothy Epperhart, Jean Lail, Roger Palmer and William Palmer. Originally based at the Butler County Regional Airport, after 11 years, the group moved to and opened a museum in the 1938 City Hangar at the Middletown Regional Airport in Middletown, Ohio. [1] [2] The organization's facility is located in the National Aviation Heritage Area and is adjacent to the site of the Aeronca Aircraft factory. Butler County Warbirds is also part of the Aviation Trail. [3]
The organization began raising funds to purchase a North American AT-6 Texan in October 2022. [4] Plans call for the profits from rides sold in the airplane to go to an aviation scholarship for women. [5]
Their facility inside the 1938 City Hangar includes a 2,100 square foot artifact display which houses over 1800 artifacts from the American Civil War to present day, with a bulk of the collection being from World War II. The display includes an interior recreation of a Nissen hut complete with an officer's bar. [6]

From 1928 to 1951, the company was a major producer of general aviation aircraft, and also produced the engines for some of their early designs.
The Fairchild Model 24, also called the Fairchild Model 24 Argus and UC-61 Forwarder, is a four-seat, single-engine monoplane light transport aircraft designed by the Fairchild Aviation Corporation in the 1930s. It was adopted by the United States Army Air Corps as UC-61 and also by the Royal Air Force. The Model 24 was itself a development of previous Fairchild models and became a successful civil and military utility aircraft. It first flew in 1932, and over 2230 would be produced by the time production ended in the late 1940s.

In 1998, after a split developed in the membership with two thirds of the group wanting to move to a modern airport and grow, the National Warplane Museum moved to the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport near Horseheads, New York. In 2010, the Horseheads museum reinvented itself as the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center. In 2013, the National Warplane Museum name was reacquired by the 1941 Historical Aircraft Group which remained in Geneseo. The museum hosts the annual Geneseo Airshow, billed as the "Greatest Show On Turf."
