The CGM Gallagher Group is the Caribbean's largest insurance broker. It has offices in Jamaica, Barbados, St. Vincent and St. Lucia. [1]

In the Eastern Caribbean, CGM Insurance Brokers was the name of the insurance broking company which began in Barbados in 1980 out of the Willis Agency. CGM began in Jamaica in 1971 as International Insurance Brokers Limited (IIB) evolving out of a partnership between the ICD Group, BNS and Hogg Robinson & Gardner Mountain Limited (Lloyds Brokers).[ citation needed ]

In 2004, CGM Insurance Brokers out of Barbados and IIB Jamaica merged to create the CGM Group with sole focus on commercial insurance segments. The majority of the Group’s shares are held by Jamaica-based ICD Group.[ citation needed ]

A year after the Barbados/Jamaica merger, the CGM Group established CGM Insurance Brokers St. Vincent Limited, which is now the largest brokerage in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In 2007, Arthur J. Gallagher partnered with the Group to create the CGM Gallagher Group. [2] Soon after, CGM Gallagher established CGM Gallagher Insurance Brokers St. Lucia Limited. [3] [4]

It also operates CaribRM, a risk management company which is the Facility Supervisor of the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility - an insurance partnership between CARICOM and the World Bank. The CCRIF is the world's first multi-government regional parametric catastrophe insurance facility. [5]

The University of the West Indies (UWI), originally University College of the West Indies, is a public university system established to serve the higher education needs of the residents of 17 English-speaking countries and territories in the Caribbean: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos Islands. Each country is either a member of the Commonwealth of Nations or a British Overseas Territory. The aim of the university is to help "unlock the potential for economic and cultural growth" in the West Indies, thus allowing improved regional autonomy. The university was originally instituted as an independent external college of the University of London.

CARICOM Single Market and Economy Common market strategy of Caribbean states

The CARICOM Single Market and Economy, also known as the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME), is an integrated development strategy envisioned at the 10th Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) which took place in July 1989 in Grand Anse, Grenada. The Grand Anse Declaration had three key Features:

  1. Deepening economic integration by advancing beyond a common market towards a Single Market and Economy.
  2. Widening the membership and thereby expanding the economic mass of the Caribbean Community.
  3. Progressive insertion of the region into the global trading and economic system by strengthening trading links with non-traditional partners.

The Royal Bank of Trinidad and Tobago (RBTT) was a commercial bank based in Trinidad and Tobago and one of the largest commercial banking corporations in the Caribbean region. As of 2008 RBTT Holdings had a group asset base of over US$6.2 billion dollars. The RBTT group of companies operated several commercial banking businesses in other neighbouring islands, as well as various investment holdings in various parts of the Trinidad and Tobago economy. On 26 March 2008, RBTT Shareholders voted 98.18 percent in favour of selling the bank to the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), who previously had divested the bank in 1987. On 16 June 2008, RBC completed the acquisition. RBTT Financial Holdings Limited and RBC Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of RBC, will amalgamate and continue as a wholly owned indirect subsidiary of RBC. The head office of the Caribbean operations for RBC will be located at Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, and the site of RBTT's headquarters.

Rugby Americas North Womens Sevens

The Rugby Americas North Women's Sevens, or RAN Women's Sevens, is the regional championship for women's international rugby sevens in North America and the Caribbean. The tournament is held over two days, typically on a weekend in November. It is sanctioned and sponsored by Rugby Americas North, which is the rugby union governing body for the region. Prior to 2016, it was referred to as the North America and Caribbean Women's Sevens.

Adam Stewart (business executive) Jamaican businessman (born 1981)

Adam Stewart is a Jamaican businessman. He is the Chairman of the Caribbean-based resort company Sandals Resorts International (SRI), the ATL Group, a Jamaica-based automotive, commercial, and domestic appliance distributor and President of the Sandals Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sandals Resorts International.

1958 West Indies federal elections Election in the West Indies Federation

Federal elections were held in the West Indies Federation for the first and only time on 25 March 1958. The result was a victory for the West Indies Federal Labour Party, which won 25 of the 45 seats in the House of Representatives.

Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility Segregated Portfolio Company is an insurance company headquartered in the Cayman Islands. The sixteen original member-countries of CCRIF included participants in CARICOM, and the membership of the Board of Directors is selected by CARICOM and by the Caribbean Development Bank.
