Chandra Kumar Chinnappa (born 16 May 1953) born in Bangalore (now Bengaluru) is an Indian motorsports athlete and administrator. [1] He is a racing driver and a rally co-driver. Chinnappa took part in Indian National bike races in various disciplines like rallies, autocross, motocross, hill climb and drag meets, and in later years he became a regular four-wheeler rally co-driver in the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for an overall career spanning 34 active years as a competitor. [2] Now he continues as a senior steward of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI).

Motorsports career

Popularly known as Chinni, he started his career in a club rally in 1973 and made his debut in the maiden Karnataka 1000 rally (K1000) for bikes organised by Bangalore Motorsports Club, which later became Karnataka Motor Sports Club (KMSC). He started on an Yezdi. [3] [4] Initially, the K1000 Rally, used to be run over a distance of about 1000 miles across more than two states in the TSD format for both the bikes and four-wheelers. In late eighties, Chinnappa shifted to four-wheelers and took part in the National four-wheeler rallies regularly from early nineties until he retired in 2007. [5] He also won many other cross-country National events like Himalayan Rally and Desert Storm. He retired after winning the Desert Storm with Anil Wadia in 2007 to take care of his son Deepak Chinnappa's motorsports career. He won the Rally Star Cup at Nashik in 2003. [6] [7] He won the Himalayan Rally in 2000. [8]

Representing JK Tyre rallying team, he navigated for Manik Raikhy in 1997 [9] and went on to call the pace notes, for many more drivers, in a four-wheeler career spanning over a decade.

Chinnappa now attends major motorsports events in the country as a steward of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (fmsci).

The Yezdi Roadking was a motorcycle produced in India by Ideal Jawa Ltd, Mysore from 1978 to 1996. It was based on the CZ 250 motocross ridden by Jaroslav Falta to the runner-up spot in the 1974 motocross world championship. It was sold under the brand name Yezdi. The bike won several Indian rallies and road races. The bike had a 250 cc engine with dual exhausts and a semi-automatic clutch and Jawa/CZ's trademark integrated gear shifter/kick-starter.

Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) is a rallying Natioinal Championship in different classes with a series of rounds, organised uder the aegis of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), which is the Governing Body or ASN of India recognised by FIA culminating with National Champion Driver and Co-Driver. The driver and co-drivers's championship are based on a point system. The championship first received its National Championship Title status in 1988. Aroor Arjun Rao of Mangaluru is the reigning National champion. Supported by MRF Tyres, he drives for Mandovi Racing team in a Maruti Baleno. The 2024 National Championship begins in Chennai from 15 March 2024 with the South India Rally (SIR) which is also a round of the APRC Asia Cup.

Nazir Hoosein was an Indian racing driver and motorsport administrator. He was the President of the Motorsports Association of India, Vice President of the FIA for Sport, chief steward of the World Rally Championship and a member of the World Motor Sport Council.

Karna Kadur is an Indian National Rally Champion. He began with road racing and also achieved immense success in Indian rallying with seven National rally titles in different classes. He won two Overall National Rally Championship victories 2016 and 2022 with Arka Motorsports. He is with Arka Motorsports and drives in MRF Tyres colours under the mentorship of N Leelakrishnan, his engineer and tuner. He is also the first driver to get a National Championship title for Volkswagen Polo along with co-driver Nikhil Pai.

Aravind KP is an Indian professional motor racer. In 2005, he made his debut in National motocross races and within a year, TVS Racing spotted him at Gulf Dirt Track National Championship in 2006 and sponsored him. Since then, he has won more than 17 events in different motorsports disciplines like Dirt track, two-wheeler rallies and motocross and supercross events, and also had one international trophy. Aravind biggest victory on Indian soil came in 2015 when he tasted victory at the Raid De Himalaya, considered as the toughest terrain at high altitude. He participated in Dakar Rally thrice. In the 2019 Dakar Rally he finished 37th position becoming the only Indian to finish the rally that year and 2nd Indian overall to finish the rally over the years. He received best sportsperson of the year award in the year 2019 by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs in India (FMSCI), the governing body for motorsports in India and the ASN of FIA and FIM. He has appeared in Dulquer Salmaan's Bangalore Days movie. He was Runner-up in Bigg Boss Kannada Season 8 Television Reality Show. Aravind K.P recently was a part of a National record: Mahindra XUV700 24 hours endurance challenge.

The 2022–23 MRF Formula 2000 season was the eighth running of a Formula 2000-level single-seater championship in India. Previously known as the MRF Challenge, it was last held up until early 2020, before being cancelled for two seasons because of the COVID-19 pandemic. For the 2022–23 season, it was restarted without support of the FIA and simply called MRF Formula 2000, with the field consisting of domestic drivers rather than foreign racers competing over the European and Northern American off-season.

Nikhil Vittal Pai is an Indian rally co-driver who won the Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for four-wheelers twice in 2016 and 2022. He is one of the most-experienced co-drivers currently taking part in INRC for four-wheelers from 1992.

Akbar Ebrahim is an accomplished Indian motorsports driver. He is the first Indian to take part in an international race when he participated in the Formula 2 Britain. He is currently the President of the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India from September 2020. Ebrahim is also the head oif the international Karting Commission, the CIK of FIA.

Arjun Balu is an Indian motorsports driver. After starting as a road racing driver in 1992, he took part in the Indian National Rally Championship for 17 years. He won 11 Championships, all in road racing and is currently racing in the Indian Touring Car (ITC) class in the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Car Racing Championship 2023. He is the reigning National champion in the ITC class (2022).

Karnataka Motor Sports Club, popularly known as KMSC, is a state association for promoting and conducting motorsports in the Indian state of Karnataka. The club is based in Bengaluru. It is a founder member of the Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI), the governing body for motor sports in India. It is one of the oldest ‘active’ motorsports clubs in India. It holds the record of organising the Karnataka 1000 rally continuously for the last 48 years.
