Caddy Adzuba (born 5 April 1981 in Bukavu) is a Congolese lawyer, journalist, and activist for women's rights. Her focus is on fighting sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). [2] She worked for Radio Okapi and in 2014 she received the Princess Asturias Award for Peace.
Adzuba was born on 5 April 1981, she is the oldest of eight siblings born in a wealthy neighborhood of Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo. She graduated in Law at the Université officielle de Bukavu in 2005. [3]
According to the IFEX Network, a group of organizations defending freedom of expression around the world, Adzuba decided to work for the promotion of human rights when war broke out in her home when she was 16 years old. [4] After being separated from her family and witnessing human suffering, she "decided to do something for human rights." [4]
She helped found Un Altavoz para el Silencio network, reporting the sexual violence against women in her country. She is also a member of the East Congo Media Women's Association. [5] [6] Caddy Adzuba is also the co-founders of the Women's Alliance for the Promotion of Human Rights. [4]
She is now a journalist in Radio Okapi, the official radio channel of United Nation's mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nowadays her fights against torture and rape are still in the spotlight, and due to her work, she has received several death threats. [4] [7]

He ran in the 2011 presidential election. He supported Félix Tshisekedi as a coalition partner in the 2018 presidential election, and became chief of staff when Tshisekedi took office.
Radio Okapi is a radio network that operates in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. On an annual budget of USD$4.5 million, a staff of 200 provide news and information to the entire urban population of the DRC. Radio Okapi provides programming in French and in the four national languages of Congo: Lingala, Kituba, Swahili and Tshiluba,
Denis Mukwege is a Congolese gynecologist and Pentecostal pastor. He founded and works in Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, where he specializes in the treatment of women who have been raped by armed rebels. In 2018, Mukwege and Iraqi Yazidi human rights activist Nadia Murad were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict".
The Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the east of the country in particular, has been described as the "Rape Capital of the World", and the prevalence and intensity of all forms of sexual violence has been described as the worst in the world. Human Rights Watch defines sexual violence as "an act of a sexual nature by force, or by threat of force or coercion", and rape as "a form of sexual violence during which the body of a person is invaded, resulting in penetration, however slight, of any part of the body of the victim, with a sexual organ, or of the anal or genital opening of the victim with any object or other part of the body."
Barbara Kanam Mutund, known professionally as Barbara Kanam, is a Congolese singer-songwriter, music producer, actress, philanthropist, and currently serves as the Director General of the Cultural Promotion Fund of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She gained fame after being discovered by Alpha Blondy and producer Dodo Kone, who helped her release her debut studio album Mokili in 1999. The album's gospel-influenced lead single "Mokili Ekoleka" earned her a television appearance at the Koras Awards. Teti, her second studio album, released in 2003, won her Most Promising African Female Artist at the 2003 Kora Award. Teti won her many accolades, including two consecutive Best Female of Central Africa for Kunde d'Or and Tamani d'O in 2004, two consecutive Black Music Awards for Best Female and Best Video for "Bibi Madeleine" in 2005.

Julienne Lusenge is a Congolese human rights activist recognized for advocating for survivors of wartime sexual violence. She is co-founder and President of Female Solidarity for Integrated Peace and Development (SOFEPADI) and director of the Congolese Women's Fund (FFC).
The 2018 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Denis Mukwege and Nadia Murad "for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict," according to the Norwegian Nobel Committee announcement on 5 October 2018 in Oslo, Norway. "Both laureates have made a crucial contribution to focusing attention on, and combating, such war crimes," according to the award citation. After reading the citation, Committee Chair Berit Reiss-Andersen told reporters that the impact of this year's award is to highlight sexual abuse with the goal that every level of governance take responsibility to end such crimes and impunities.
Immaculée Birhaheka is a human rights activist from Democratic Republic of Congo. She is co-founder and president of the women's rights organization Promotion et Appui aux Initiatives Feminines (PAIF) which works to combat sexual violence and increase the participation of women in civic life.
Solange Lusiku Nsimire was a journalist and women's rights activist from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. She was the first woman to run a written newspaper in South Kivu Province in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Gloria Sengha Panda Shala is a Congolese lawyer, human rights and prodemocracy activist. She is the cofounder of Vigilance Citoyenne (VICI), a prodemocracy movement and one of the notable voices in campaigns against sexual slavery of underaged girls. she has been arrested several times by state authorities for her prodemocracy activism. In 2018, Human Rights Research Institute (IRDH) awarded her Human Rights Champion Award of the year.
