Chongqing, alternately romanized as Chungking, is one of the four direct-administered municipalities of the People's Republic of China (PRC). The official abbreviation of the city, "Yú", was approved by the State Council on 18 April 1997. This abbreviation is derived from the old name of a part of the Jialing River that runs through Chongqing and feeds into the Yangtze River. Chongqing is China’s major modernized manufacturing base, a financial center and an international transport hub in Western China. Geographically, Chongqing is strategically positioned as a gateway to China’s west, a key connection in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, and a strategic base for China’s Belt and Road Initiative.
Shapingba is a district of Chongqing, People's Republic of China, formerly known as Shaci District during the Sino-Japanese War. It is one of the central parts of Chongqing and covers around 396 square kilometers, with 13 subdistricts and 11 towns. Shapingba is one of the most populated areas in Chongqing with a population of around one million.
The Chongqing Rail Transit is the rapid transit system in the city of Chongqing, China. In operation since 2005, it serves the transportation needs of the city's main business and entertainment downtown areas and inner suburbs. As of January 2023, CRT consisted of ten lines, with a total track length of 485.02 km (301 mi). Lines 1, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, the Loop line and Jiangtiao line are conventional heavy-rail metro lines, Lines 2 and 3 are high-capacity monorails. To keep up with urban growth, construction is under way on Line 18 and several other lines, in addition to extensions to Lines 5, 6 and 10.
Guang'an is a prefecture-level city in eastern Sichuan province. It is most famous as the birthplace of China's former paramount leader Deng Xiaoping. Guang'an lies between the hills of central Sichuan and the gorges area of the east.Guang'an is the only "Sichuan Chongqing Cooperation Demonstration Zone" in Sichuan and the nearest prefecture level city from the main city of Chongqing. It has been incorporated into the 1 hour economic circle of Chongqing. Because of its strategic location, it is called the "Gateway to Eastern Sichuan". Its population as of 2020 census was 3,254,883, of whom 976,370 lived in the built-up area made of 2 urban districts.
Nan'an District, is one of the six central districts of Chongqing municipality, China. It covers an area of 262.43 km2, with 44 km2 covered with forests and woods. It has an estimated population of 891,000 in late 2017.
Beibei District is a district in the Chongqing municipality, People's Republic of China. A satellite town in the north of central Chongqing, Beibei got its name because of the huge rock that extends to the middle of Jialing River, and is known for its historical culture in the period of the Republic of China. It covers around 755 square kilometers (292 sq mi) and has a population of about 650,000 (2004).
The bridges and tunnels across the Yangtze River carry rail and road traffic across China's longest and largest river and form a vital part of the country's transportation infrastructure. The river bisects China proper from west to east, and every major north–south bound highway and railway must cross the Yangtze. Large urban centers along the river such as Chongqing, Wuhan, and Nanjing also have urban mass transit rail lines crossing the Yangtze.
Liangjiang, officially known as Liangjiang New Area, is a state-level new area situated in the municipality of Chongqing, China. The area covers 1,205 square kilometres combining part of Jiangbei District, Yubei District, and Beibei District.
CRT Line 6 is the second heavy rail subway line in Chongqing, as well as being the longest rapid transit line in China, at 85.6 km long. It opened with provisional revenue service on September 28, 2012, and connects Nan'an, Yuzhong, and Jiangbei districts in central Chongqing.
The Line 1 of Wuhan Metro is an elevated metro line in the city of Wuhan, Hubei. It is the longest continuous metro viaduct in the world. Line 1 opened on 28 July 2004, making Wuhan the fifth city in mainland China to have a metro system after Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Guangzhou. This is the first Metro line in China incorrectly referred to as a light rail line in Chinese terminology because it is elevated. Originally a branch line was planned to cross the Yangtze to Wuchang District via the Second Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge. The Second Wuhan River Bridge even had a provision in the central median where Line 1 trains would run in anticipation for the branch line when it opened in 1995. However by 2003 the reservation was removed to allow for more traffic lanes when the bridge was undergoing renovation.
The Yudong Bridge is a prestressed concrete box girder bridge which crosses the Yangtze River in Chongqing, China. Completed in 2008, it has a main span of 260 metres (850 ft). The bridge carries 6 lanes of China National Highway 210 between the Banan District south of the Yangtze River and the Dadukou District to the north. The bridge also carries Line 2 of the Chongqing Metro in its median.
The Chongqing West railway station is a railway station of Chengyu Passenger Railway that is located in Shapingba District of Chongqing, People's Republic of China. It is the second largest railway station, after Xi'an North, in South Western China when opened on January 25, 2018. It will serve as Chongqing's connection with many destinations across south-western and north-western China. Situated in Shangqiao area of Shapingba, near the intersections of the G93 Chengdu–Chongqing Ring Expressway and the G85 Chongqing–Kunming Expressways. This is the third major railway station to serve Chongqing, after Chongqing North and Chongqing Stations. It opened in conjunction with the smaller nearby Shapingba station on the same day.
The Dongshuimen Bridge and the Qiansimen Bridge, known collectively as the Twin River Bridges, are a pair of bridges that form a road and rail connection in Chongqing, China. Consisting of two cable-stayed bridges and a tunnel across the Yuzhong peninsula where the heart of Chongqing's commercial & financial district Jiefangbei CBD is located, the connection opened in 2014.

Caojiawan is a station on Line 6 of the Chongqing Rail Transit system in Chongqing, China. The station, located in Beibei District north of the Jialing River, opened in 2015 as an infill station on Line 6.

The Egongyan Rail Transit Bridge is a suspension bridge carrying the Chongqing Rail Transit Loop line across the Yangtze. It connects Jiulongpo District in the west with Nan'an District in the east. The Egongyan Rail Transit Bridge is located about 70 meters upstream of the old Egongyan Bridge which carries only road traffic. The overall bridge is 1,650.5 metres (5,415 ft) long, with a 600 metres (2,000 ft) main span, making it the longest cable supported transit only bridge in the world by main span.
Gaojia Huayuan Jialing River Rail Transit Bridge is a rail transit suspension bridge crossing the Jialing River between Shapingba District and Jiangbei District in Chongqing. The bridge carries trains for the Chongqing Rail Transit Loop line. It was put into use on December 18, 2018.
Hualongqiao station, formerly known as Huacun station during planning, is a station on Line 9 of Chongqing Rail Transit in Chongqing municipality, China, which opened in 2022. It is located in Yuzhong District, close to several skyscrapers at the south end of Jiahua Bridge. The station is the highest station in the world surpassing the height of Smith–Ninth Streets station in New York. The station is a 6 story tall structure with Line 10 trains stopping 48 meters above the surface. The station will have connections to the adjacent supertall Chongqing International Trade and Commerce Center.
Nanjimen Yangtze River Bridge is a rapid transit cable-stayed bridge that crosses the Yangtze to connect Yuzhong and Nan'an Districts in Chongqing. The bridge carries Chongqing Rail Transit Line 10 trains. It opened on 18 January 2023.
