Caledonian Airways was a charter airline in the United Kingdom established in 1988 by rebranding British Airtours when that company's parent British Airways took over British Caledonian. It merged in 2000 with Flying Colours Airlines to form JMC Air.

Caledonian Airways was formed in 1988 when British Airways acquired British Caledonian. The British Airways air charter subsidiary British Airtours was rebranded as Caledonian Airways.

In 1995 British Airways sold Caledonian Airways to UK tour operator Inspirations, part of the Carlson Group. Between 1997 and 1998 Caledonian Airways operated four aircraft under the name Peach Air.

Inspirations became part of the Thomas Cook in 2000. Caledonian Airways was merged with Flying Colours Airlines to form JMC Air. [1] Who then renamed to Thomas Cook Airlines, being part of the newly formed Thomas Cook AG.

Fleet

Caledonian Airways operated 39 aircraft during its 12 years in operation including one Airbus A300, six Airbus A320, six Boeing 737-200, one Boeing 747-200, eight Boeing 757-200, ten Lockheed L-1011 and seven McDonnell Douglas DC-10. [1]

Caledonian Airways was a wholly private, independent charter airline in the United Kingdom formed in April 1961. It began with a single 104-seat Douglas DC-7C leased from the Belgian flag carrier Sabena. Caledonian grew rapidly over the coming years to become the leading transatlantic "affinity group" charter operator by the end of the decade. During that period, passenger numbers grew from just 8,000 in 1961 to 800,000 in 1970. The latter represented 22.7% of all British non-scheduled passengers. It also became Britain's most consistently profitable and financially most secure independent airline of its era, never failing to make a profit in all its ten years of existence. By the end of 1970, Caledonian operated an all-jet fleet consisting of eleven aircraft and provided employment for over 1,000 workers. At that time, its principal activities included group charters between North America, Europe and the Far East using Boeing 707s, and general charter and inclusive tour (IT) activities in Europe utilising One-Elevens.

Meridiana Fly S.p.A., operating as Meridiana, was a privately owned Italian airline headquartered in Olbia with its main base at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport. It operated scheduled and charter flights to domestic, European and intercontinental destinations from several Italian bases. Some of its operations were carried out by the old Air Italy under the Meridiana brand. It was owned by Qatar Airways through AQA Holding (49%) and Alisarda S.p.A. (51%), who rebranded the airline as the new Air Italy effective 1 March 2018.
