CallApp is a mobile app offering caller ID, call blocking and call recording. It gives background information about the entities behind incoming or outgoing calls by utilizing the user's community-generated content and social networking services.
CallApp was invented and founded in 2011, [1] in Tel Aviv, Israel by its former CEO, Oded Volovitz and current CEO, Amit On. [2] raising $1 million in seed investment. [3] It was initially introduced publicly at the TechCrunch Disrupt New York 2012, where it launched its application for Android, [4] at the DEMO conference, [2] and at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona. [5] It won the Geek Award for the fledgling start-up of the year 2012. [6] In 2014, the company raised $4 million from the angel investors Saar Wilf and Moshe Lichtman and from Giza and Susquehanna venture capital funds. [7] Amit On was named the company's CEO [8] in 2014, CallApp had five million users along with 50,000 daily downloads, making it one of the 100 leading apps on Google Play. [9] As of February 2021, it has over 100 million users. [10]
CallApp provides caller ID, which gives the users the means to identify telemarketing, spammers and robocall numbers, and enables call blocking and blacklisting unsolicited callers. The app provides the user with real-time information about the entities behind incoming or outgoing calls by utilizing info that people and businesses share about themselves all over the web along with communications that CallApp community decides to share. [11] The app synchronizes the user email and calendar, shows mutual contacts, and includes business information. [12] It also offers call recording, telephone directory, reverse telephone directory, private browsing, call reminder and car mode, as well as paid upgrade options. [13]

In partnership with mobile network operators, the City ID service is available on many devices from Alltel, AT&T, U.S. Cellular, and Verizon Wireless.
Xobni was a San Francisco-based company that made software applications and services including products for Microsoft Outlook and mobile devices. It was founded in March 2006 by Adam Smith and Matt Brezina from Adam's dorm room in Cambridge, Massachusetts, as part of the Y Combinator summer founder's program. In late 2006, it relocated to San Francisco to be closer to Silicon Valley. It was acquired by Yahoo! in July 2013 for more than $60 million and shut down one year later.

PicDial provides users with the ability to automatically see their friends' Facebook and MySpace profile pictures and status messages as Full Screen Caller ID on their mobile phone. The software automatically keeps contacts social networking information current, allowing the most recent profile pictures and status messages to be displayed on incoming and outgoing calls or texts. The PicDial application provides users with a "Favorites Screen," a visual grid that allows users to call or text by selecting a friends social networking profile picture. This Mobile social address book platform allows users to link multiple social networks. The application also enables users to determine which picture will display when a call or text is made to a PicDial friend, giving the user control over the picture seen by friends. This defined picture can either be taken from the users camera on the phone, or pulled from their profile pictures on Facebook or MySpace. When a user changes their picture, this new image will be updated to their friends' phones.

NumberGuru is a website and smartphone application that allows users to look up the owner of an entered telephone number. Developed by BeenVerified, it can be accessed through its website and smartphone applications for iPhone, Windows Mobile, and Android. It aggregates 99% of landline phones and approximately 50% of domestic cell phones. It also collects data on toll-free and telemarketing callers. It was reported that it averaged approximately 864,000 look-ups per day shortly after its launch in May 2011. It was also listed as a Top 10 Utility App and Top 150 Free Apps Overall by App Annie.
Flurry is an American mobile analytics, monetization, and advertising company founded in 2005. The company develops and markets a platform for analyzing consumer interactions with mobile applications, packages for marketers to advertise in-apps, as well as a service for applying monetization structures to mobile apps. Flurry analyzes 150 billion app sessions per month. The company's analytics platform tracks application sessions in iOS, Android, HTML5, and JavaME platforms. Flurry has raised a total of $65 million in funding since its founding and in March 2014 announced that it would partner with Research Now to create a panel database on mobile users. Flurry was acquired by Yahoo! on July 21, 2014 for somewhere between $200 and $300 million.
