Calligraphy Museum of Iran is an art museum in Tehran Province. It opened on August 19, 2017. The museum has about 200 works on public display, which include calligraphy pieces, manuscripts, calligraphy tools and other objects related to the art of calligraphy. The historical period of the artworks covers from the third hijri century to the beginning of the Pahlavi period. [1] [2]

The museum is located in the former mansion of politician Gholamreza Fuladvand. [3]

Collections

A number of items in the collection came from the personal collection of Iranian calligrapher Abdollah Foradi. [3]

Malek National Museum and Library is a museum and national library in Tehran, Iran. Malek National Library and Museum Institution (MNLMI) is the first private museum of Iran, and one of the six large libraries holding the exquisite manuscripts. The MNLMI collection is a rich trove of the best manuscripts and Iranian historical artworks. The Institution is located in the historical precinct of “Bagh-e Melli”, that is considered the cultural-historical center of Tehran. Usually, the MNLM visitors are numerous university students and researchers, as well as tourists who enjoy its library and museum facilities. It is one of the biggest libraries of precious manuscripts in Iran, built by Hadji Hussein Agha Malek, the richest man in Iran at the time. He built it in a traditional Persian architecture style. One of the biggest contributors is Esat Malek Malek, Hadji Hussein Agha Malek's eldest daughter, who contributed to the museum's development.

A cursory glance at the history of art reveals that social, political and economic conditions have always played a major role in the emergence of new artistic currents and styles. As an example Flight by Morteza Katouzian is showing the marginalized people who have no freedom as result of political changes. In Iran, the social and political developments of the 1940s radically altered the evolution of this country's plastic arts and entirely altering its natural path.

Shokouh Riazi was an Iranian Modernist painter, and educator. She a pioneer of modern art in Iran and is thought to have been the first Iranian women to study art in Paris. Riazi taught painting classes, and some members of the Saqqakhaneh movement had been her students.

Faramarz Pilaram was an Iranian painter and educator. He is known for his abstract, and calligraphy-based modern paintings. Pilaram was a pioneer within the Saqqakhaneh school, a neo-traditionalist art movement. There were three major periods in his artistic career: figurative, decorative and calligraphic.
