Cameron James Edwards (born 27 March 1992) is an Australian professional soccer player who plays as a midfielder for Fremantle City FC. Edwards previously trained with the Nike Football Academy after being released by Reading in May 2012. [2]

Career

Perth Glory

Born in Sydney, Edwards made his professional debut in the A-League for Perth Glory on 23 January 2011 against Wellington Phoenix, coming on as a substitute in the 84th minute of the game in a 4–0 loss. [3]

Reading

On 29 April 2011, it was announced he had signed with Championship side Reading along with his younger brother Ryan. [4] On 2 May 2012 Reading announced that Cameron had been released by the club. [5]

Melbourne Heart

On 31 December 2012 it was announced that Edwards had joined A-League side Melbourne Heart following a stint at the Nike Football Academy. [6]

Perth Glory

Edwards signed with Perth Glory in May 2013, [7] linking up with his father. His brother would later join the Glory on a season long loan. [8] Edwards made his debut for the Glory on 20 October 2013, coming on as a 59th-minute substitute for Steven McGarry, in their 0-0 away draw against Newcastle Jets. [9]

Personal life

Cameron is a son of former Australian international Alistair Edwards, [10] his mother is a Singaporean national, [11] and he is the older brother of fellow soccer player Ryan.

The 2012–13 A-League was the 36th season of top-flight soccer in Australia, and the eighth season of the Australian A-League since its establishment in 2004. The 2012–13 season saw the introduction of a new Western Sydney-based team, the return of Newcastle Jets FC after their A-League licence was returned by FFA, and the end of Gold Coast United after they were removed from the competition at the end of the previous season. The 2020–21 A-League was the 44th season of national level soccer in Australia, and the 16th since the establishment of the A-League in 2004. The season was started on 28 December 2020 and concluded with the Grand Final on 27 June 2021. The start of the season was later than previous seasons as a result of both the COVID-19 pandemic in Australia and New Zealand, and as part of a gradual shift to move the competition from summer to winter. Wellington Phoenix played the majority of their home matches at Wollongong Showground in Wollongong due to international travel restrictions.
