Candelas are a Welsh rock band from Llanuwchllyn, North Wales.
Candelas released their first EP Kim Y Syniad in 2011. Since being signed to the label I Ka Ching in 2013 they have released two albums and three singles. Their first album featured songs in both Welsh and English and their second album is entirely sung in Welsh. In February 2014, the band won three Y Selar awards for best Welsh language song, best long record and best band. [1] They won best Welsh language band again in February 2015, also winning the best artwork prize. [2] [3] Their album Bodoli'n Ddistaw was shortlisted for the 2015 Welsh-language album of the year. In 2016 the band recorded a cover of Yr Anhrefn's Rhedeg i Paris (Running to Paris in English), described as the "anthem of the Summer", [6] to celebrate the Wales football team reaching the European Football Championship.
The band have played at numerous music festivals across Wales such as Festival Number 6, [7] Maes B, and Tafwyl which they headlined in 2016 and again in 2017 after Bryn Fôn pulled out.[ citation needed ]
In 2017, the band were reported to be recording their first English-language EP and a third album, [8] which was released in 2018 titled Wyt Ti'n Meiddio Dod i Chwarae following two singles.
The band's drummer, Lewis Williams, won best instrumentalist at the 2013 Y Selar awards [2] for his work in Candelas and Sŵnami.

Hedd Wyn was a Welsh-language poet who was killed on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele during World War I. He was posthumously awarded the bard's chair at the 1917 National Eisteddfod. Evans, who had been awarded several chairs for his poetry, was inspired to take the bardic name Hedd Wyn from the way sunlight penetrated the mist in the Meirionnydd valleys.

Gareth 'Gai' J Thomas 'Toms' is a Welsh singer-songwriter, musician, producer and actor. In 1992 he co-formed the popular Welsh ska-rock band Anweledig, which developed into one of Wales' top live party bands. From 1997 to 2007 he created an 'off the road' Welsh folk outfit Mim Twm Llai, releasing three albums on Recordiau Sain. Since 2008, he dropped the Mim Twm Llai pseudonym for his own lifelong nickname Gai Toms, performing solo on guitar or with his backing band. Carwyn Meurig Ellis is a Welsh musician, composer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. He is known as the frontman of British alternative band Colorama, as a member of the Pretenders and as a long-time collaborator with Edwyn Collins. In 2014, they worked together on the soundtrack to the film The Possibilities Are Endless which won the Mojo 'Film of the Year' Award.
Y Bandana are a Welsh language alternative rock band that formed in Caernarfon in 2008. The band is composed of brothers Tomos Owens (keyboard) and Siôn Owens, their cousin Gwilym Bowen Rhys and Robin Jones (percussion). They are known for combining humorous lyrics with catchy melodies.
The Tafwyl festival is an annual Welsh-language festival which takes place in Cardiff, Wales. It culminates with a two day open air festival, normally held in Cardiff Castle.
The Gentle Good is the stage name of Gareth Bonello, a singer-songwriter and folk musician from Cardiff who performs in English and Welsh. The stage name is inspired by Bonello's, with "Gareth" traditionally meaning "Gentle" in Welsh. In addition to his own material, Bonello has had a longstanding partnership with musician Richard James and has also collaborated with other artists as a session musician.
Ochr 1 was a Welsh language music programme on S4C, concentrating on current Welsh music of all genres. The series started in 2013 as part of Y Lle's culture themed programme for young people. It was presented by Griff Lynch and ran until 2017.
Sŵnami are a Welsh indie rock group from Dolgellau, north-west Wales, who sing predominantly in Welsh. They won the Welsh Language Album of the Year prize at the 2016 National Eisteddfod of Wales. Their name is a play on the word 'tsunami' and the Welsh word for sound, "Sŵn", to convey the idea of a wave of sound.
Yws Gwynedd is a Welsh rock band from North Wales named after its lead singer Ywain Gwynedd.
Codi Cysgu is the debut album of Welsh singer Yws Gwynedd and his band. The album was released 6 years after the last album of Gwynedd's previous band Frizbee who disbanded in 2008. They had achieved some level of success in Wales, having appeared several times on Welsh television and radio. Codi /\Cysgu contains songs written by Yws over a period of 15 years.
The Y Selar Awards are awarded annually for the best Welsh language rock and pop music, by the Welsh language music magazine, Y Selar. The awards ceremony is the only one particularly for Welsh language music.

Adwaith (transl. Reaction) are a Welsh language indie rock group from Carmarthen in West Wales, formed in 2015. The group consists of Hollie Singer, Gwenllian Anthony and Heledd Owen (drums). Signed to Libertino Records, they released their first album Melyn in 2018. Both Melyn and its follow-up Bato Mato (2022) won Welsh Music Prize awarded for the best album from Wales, making Adwaith the first act to receive the award twice.
Bwncath ("buzzard") is a Welsh rock-folk or contemporary folk band from Caernarfon.
Mared Williams, known professionally as Mared, is a Welsh singer-songwriter from Llannefydd, north Wales. She won the 2021 Welsh Language Album Award and has won two Y Selar Awards.
