Cantus (Norwegian female choir)

Cantus is a Norwegian women's choir founded in 1986. It consists of around 30 amateur singers, [1] and is based in Trondheim. Their director is Tove Ramlo-Ystad. [2]

Despite being an amateur choir, they keep holding a very good international standard, and have shown this through winning several competitions through the years. [3]

Cantus won the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships in Guangzhou, China (2012), [4] and is ranked as number 1 in their class, and 8th best in the world, on the webpages of interkultur.com. [5]

In 2013, Cantus appeared on the soundtrack of the Disney animated movie Frozen , with a Sámi inspired piece written by Frode Fjellheim and movie composer Christophe Beck. [6] [7] In 2019, Cantus appeared again on the soundtrack of Frozen II . [8]

Gérard’d du Toit is an International figure in the Choral world who has drawn attention when he conducted the Drakensberg Boys’ choir in Europe in 1988, Namibia and South Africa from 1985 to 1989. His involvement with the Drakensberg Boys Choir school led to his post-graduate studies at the University of Pretoria specialising in choral conducting and writing a thesis on the formal training of the boys voice when mutating. It his energetic and spirited leadership with the KwaZulu-Natal Youth Choir and the University of UKZN Bel Canto Chamber Choir from 1996 that led to examining and adjudicating in Europe such as Estonia ; presenting a week-long choral course on South African Choral music in Ljubljana (Slovenia) under the auspices of the Ljubljana Madrigalisti (2005), acting as the SA partner of the Choir World Games in Xiamen, China (2006), and on the jury at the prestigious Cecilia Seghizzi International Choir Competition.

The St Monica Choir was a Maltese polyphonic choir founded in 1964 by Sr Beniamina Portelli. The choir was known for its polyphonic performances in Malta. The choir's music repertoire deviated from sacred to popular, early to contemporary. In 2018, following the retirement of Portelli, the choir was taken over by two long-serving members, Attard and Vella. This transition marked a new phase, during which the choir was rebranded and renamed as the St Monica Vocal Ensemble in 2019.

Nelson Kwei is a Singaporean choral conductor. Minjona is a women's choir based at the University of Latvia. The choir was founded in 1975 by artistic director Viesturs Gailis. In 1977, it was given the name "Minjona." In 2015, Minjona was named the 9th top women's choir in the world.

Kim André Arnesen is a Norwegian composer. He grew up in Trondheim, Norway and was educated at the Music Conservatory of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. He is mostly known for his choral compositions, both a cappella, accompanied by piano or organ, or large-scale works for chorus and orchestra. His first CD album "Magnificat" was nominated for Grammy Awards 2016 in the category Best Surround Sound Album. He has received wide notice with his choral works that has been performed by choirs all over the world. His "Cradle Hymn" was a part of the regional Emmy Prize winning show "Christmas in Norway". Arnesen is an elected member of the Norwegian Society of Composers.

The Youth Choir BALSIS is a mixed youth choir in Riga, Latvia. The choir consists of some 50 young persons from Riga and other cities of Latvia who are permanent singers with the choir. The choir performs about 70 concerts every year in Latvian concert halls, churches and open-air venues.

Emeka Nwokedi is a Nigerian conductor and music director. Since 1995, he has been the conductor and music director of Muson Centre. In February 1988, he co-founded Lagos City Chorale.
