Canyon Athletic Association

The Canyon Athletic Association (CAA), previously known as the Arizona Charter Athletic Association, is an American non-profit regulatory organization for athletic competition among secondary schools located in Arizona. The CAA serves small non-traditional education institutions including charter schools, public schools, home school organizations, and parochial schools. As of 2014, the CAA membership consisted of approximately 125 High Schools and Junior High Schools.

Contents

The CAA is not affiliated with the Arizona Interscholastic Association which also regulates high school sports in Arizona. Most schools within the CAA are smaller than schools within the AIA.

South Pointe High School is a charter high school in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. Established in 2003, the school is managed by the Arizona branch of The Leona Group. It serves mostly central and south Phoenix; Laveen; and parts of Tempe. The student body is approximately 40% African-American, 20% Caucasian and 40% Hispanic and Latino.

North Pointe Preparatory was a public charter school located in Phoenix, Arizona, that served students in grades 7 through 12.

Many arterial roads in the Phoenix metropolitan area have the same name in multiple cities or towns. Some roads change names or route numbers across town borders, resulting in occasional confusion. For example, the road known as Apache Boulevard in Tempe continues east as Main Street in neighboring Mesa and then as Apache Trail in Apache Junction. Although Broadway Road maintains the same name through Goodyear, Avondale, Phoenix, Tempe, Mesa, and Apache Junction, each town uses a different reference point for address numbers.

Westwind Preparatory Academy was a college preparatory public charter high school in Phoenix, Arizona, operated by Westwind Children's Services, a nonprofit operator of several other Phoenix-area charter schools, Westwind Community Schools. The school opened in 1998 and closed in 2015. It received accreditation in 2001 as a college preparatory high school. The school was located on a 5-acre site near 19th Avenue and Northern in Phoenix, with student housing adjacent to the campus.

The Laveen Elementary School District is the K–8 school district for Laveen, an area of southwest Phoenix, Arizona, USA. It operates eight schools, serving about 7,200 students in 2018. Laveen ESD is one of 13 elementary school districts in the Phoenix area that feed into the Phoenix Union High School District. The superintendent of Laveen ESD was Dr. Bill Johnson who retired in 2020 and was succeeded by the former director of human resources for the Laveen School District Dr. Jeffrey Sprout.

The following is a timeline of the history of the area which today comprises the U.S. state of Arizona. Situated in the desert southwest, for millennia the area was home to a series of Pre-Columbian peoples. By 1 AD, the dominant groups in the area were the Hohokam, the Mogollon, and the Ancestral Puebloans. The Hohokam dominated the center of the area which is now Arizona, the Mogollon the southeast, and the Puebloans the north and northeast.
