Cara Heads (born October 7, 1977) is an Olympic weightlifter for the United States. Her coaches are Tony Ciarelli and Stephanie Ciarelli, Howard Cohen, Bob Morris and Dr. Kyle Pierce.

Early life

Sports have always been a part of Heads' life. Throughout high school, she was a scholar athlete and played 3 different sports. She played basketball. competed in track and field, and weightlifting. She was selected onto the All Orange County track and field team. In basketball, her team was Co-Champion of the Sea View League, two time CIF finalists, and state regional finalists. As a weightlifter, Heads qualified for the Junior World Weightlifting Championships in Warsaw, Poland. [1]

Education

Heads obtained her degree from the University of California Berkeley where she also participated in track and field. She competed in the hammer throw and in her freshman year earned 3rd place in the Pacific Athletic Conference Track and Field championships. [1]

After her first year in school, Heads transitioned her focus from track and field to weightlifting. She decided to drop out of school and pursue her career in weightlifting and train amongst the best female weightlifters. After the Olympic Games she went back to California Berkeley to finish her degree. [1]

Heads, at one point, was one of the top seven weightlifters in the world in her weight class. [1]

Wesley ("Wes") T. Barnett was a two-time Olympic weightlifter for the United States. His coaches were Dennis Snethen, Istvan Javorek at Johnson County Community College and Dragomir Ciroslan. Barnett earned silver and bronze medal in 1997 at the World Championships in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Barnett currently lives in Monument, Colorado, and is the leading rebounder in the local YMCA league.

Ivan Ivanov Ivanov is a Bulgarian former weightlifter and current head coach of the national Bulgarian weightlifting teams. He claimed one gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games, four time World Champion, and five time European Champion. He won the 1990 World Cup. Ivan also won 1991 World Cup Final in Barcelona and 1990 World Cup Final in Tainan, and in 1989 in Lisbon he finished second. In 1990, he became a gold medalist in Total and Clean, and Jerk and silver, medalist in Snatch of the Goodwill Games in Seattle. Ivanov was named the Best Weightlifter in the World by the International Weightlifting Federation for 1989 and 1990. Ivanov is also a three-time World Junior Champion and twice European Junior Champion. He was elected as the best coach of Bulgaria for 2019 by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the country together with the trainer on rhythmic gymnastics Vesela Dimitrova.

Derrick Crass was an Olympic weightlifter for the United States. In his early years he lifted under Coach and Mentor Ted Frank at the Belleville Weightlifting Club (IL) who laid the foundation for all future lifting achievements. In his early twenties he was selected to train at the Colorado Springs Training Facility and from then on was coached by Harvey Newton and Jim Schmitz. In 1996, he had the honor of gracing the cover of a CD, entitled Amazing Disgrace, by the rock band The Posies. The image was taken from the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Jeane Elizabeth Lassen is a Canadian weightlifter. Lassen is from Whitehorse, Yukon and is one of few Yukon athletes to break into the world scene and is Yukon's first Summer Olympian. Weightlifting official Moira Lassen is her mother.

Nahla Ramadan Mohamed is an Egyptian weightlifter and the pioneer of weightlifting in Egypt, Africa and the Arab world. She competed for Egypt at the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2012 Summer Olympics. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, competing in the heavyweight division, she did not finish the competition, being unable to register a lift in the clean and jerk. Tursunoy Jabborova is an Uzbekistani weightlifter. She won the silver medal in the women's 87 kg event at the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, and the bronze medal at the 2022 edition held in Bogotá, Colombia. She is also a three-time medalist, including two gold medals, at the Junior World Weightlifting Championships.
