Air Vice-Marshal Carl William Dixon, CB , OBE is a retired senior commander of the Royal Air Force who served as Commander of Joint Helicopter Command from 2011 to 2014.
Dixon was commissioned into the Royal Air Force (RAF) in 1979. [1] As a junior officer he flew Chinook helicopters from RAF Germany. [1] After an operational tour with the United Nations in Rwanda during the Rwandan genocide in 1994, he joined the Policy Staff at the Ministry of Defence. [1] He became Commander of the Joint Support Helicopter Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1997 and Officer Commanding No. 27 Squadron later that year. [1] He led helicopter operations over Kosovo in 1999, was deployed to Sierra Leone in 2000 and then focussed on a scheme to develop joint helicopter capabilities with the Fleet Air Arm and Army Air Corps later that year. [1]
Dixon joined the Air Resources & Plans Directorate at the Ministry of Defence in 2003 and then became Station Commander at RAF Benson from where he was deployed to Iraq as Commander of the UK Joint Helicopter Force. [1] He became Director Equipment Capability (Air & Littoral Manoeuvre) in 2005, Director (Information Superiority) in 2008 and Commander of Joint Helicopter Command in 2011. [1]
Dixon was appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the 2010 Birthday Honours. [2]
Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Peter Robin Harding, was a Royal Air Force officer who served as a bomber pilot in the 1950s, a helicopter squadron commander in the 1960s and a station commander in the 1970s. After training as a navigator, Peach commanded IX (Bomber) Squadron and then became Deputy Station Commander RAF Bruggen. He was deployed as NATO Air Commander (Forward) in Kosovo in 2000. He went on to be Chief of Defence Intelligence in 2006, Chief of Joint Operations in 2009 and the first Commander of Joint Forces Command in December 2011 before being appointed Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff in May 2013. Peach succeeded General Sir Nick Houghton as Chief of the Defence Staff on 14 July 2016. He succeeded General Petr Pavel as Chairman of the NATO Military Committee on 29 June 2018, serving as such until his retirement from NATO in June 2021.
