Carlos Henry Bosdet Fixott was an electrical engineer, born in 1857. [1] He was the first person to install and introduce the telephone in Mexico during President Porfirio Diaz's term in office. [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]
Carlos Henry Bosdet Fixott, was born on September 2, 1857, in Arichat, Nova Scotia, his parents were English from the Isle of Jersey. [7] He graduated from McGill University with a degree in electrical engineering.
Bosdet Fixott was hired by the Ericsson Telephone Company, and sent to Mexico. [7] He was sent to Mexico to install the first telephone line connecting Chapultepec Castle with the National Palace of Mexico on February 16, 1878, during the President Porfirio Diaz era. He stayed in Mexico, moving between different states to install telephone lines and by the end of the century there were five thousand units across Mexico. He is credited as bringing the first telephone lines to different states in Mexico, and prompted Ericsson Telephone Company, a Swedish company, to invest more in Mexico.
Carlos married Susan Miller who he met in Puebla, she was the daughter of an Englishman from Manchester, England. He had three sons- Ernesto (1883), Carlos (1887) and Enrique (1893). He died in 1893, at the age of 36, as the result of complications from a bullfighting wound. His sons stayed in Mexico and some of his descendants continue to live in Mexico today. [8]

José Solé was a Mexican theater director, stage actor, and set designer whose career extended over six decades. His interest in theater began during childhood in a small community then outside of Mexico City proper. Although he acted some small parts in movies, his theater career began while doing formal theater training, first in Mexico then in France. He worked to promote theater in Mexico, which did not experience the kind of governmental support that the other arts did after the Mexican Revolution, performing in and directing a wide variety of plays, as well as directing theaters and even the theatrical division of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes. He received recognition for both acting and directing early in his career, but major awards such as Premio Nacional de Ciencias y Artes in the 2000s.
Enriqueta Margarita Lavat Bayona, known professionally as Queta Lavat, was a Mexican actress. She was the sister of actor Jorge Lavat and voice actor José Lavat, and mother of Mexican sports anchor Pablo Carrillo. She is best known for her roles in Las tandas del principal, Cruz de amor and Clase 406.At the time of her death, she was one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema.
The Obelisco a los Niños Héroes is a monument installed in Chapultepec, Mexico City. The cenotaph was created in 1881 by architect Ramón Rodríguez Arangoity, one of the cadets captured in the Battle of Chapultepec. The marble cenotaph was a typical nineteenth-century monument. This one lists the names of the six cadets, the Niños Héroes, killed in the fierce fighting in the Mexican–American War as military cadets defended as well as the 40 who survived the attack. For his own political purposes, General Porfirio Díaz inaugurated the monument with a military and civilian audience of dignitaries. Subsequently, the obelisk became an annual site of remembrance for the Association of the Military College, a group of veterans who had been cadets. This modest-sized monument was superseded in 1952 by the massive Monumento a los Niños Héroes.
