Carol Fukunaga (born December 12,1947) [1] is an American lawyer and politician. She is a member of the Hawaii State Senate from the 11th District and has served in various elected offices since 1978.
Born in Honolulu,Hawaii,Fukunaga received her bachelor's degree from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and her Juris Doctor degree from the William S. Richardson School of Law. [1]
She practiced law in Honolulu. Fukunaga served in the Hawaii Constitutional Convention of 1978. She then served in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1978 to 1982 and from 1986 to 1992 and was a Democrat. From 1982 to 1986,Fukunaga served as the executive officer for the Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii. Fukunaga served in the Hawaii Senate from 1992 to 2012. From 2012 to 2022,Fukunaga served on the Honolulu City Council. [2] [3]
Liliʻuokalani was the only queen regnant and the last sovereign monarch of the Hawaiian Kingdom,ruling from January 29,1891,until the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom on January 17,1893. The composer of "Aloha ʻOe" and numerous other works,she wrote her autobiography Hawaiʻi's Story by Hawaiʻi's Queen (1898) during her imprisonment following the overthrow.
Linda Lingle is an American politician who served as the sixth governor of Hawaii from 2002 to 2010. George Ryoichi Ariyoshi is an American lawyer and politician who served as the third governor of Hawaii from 1974 to 1986. A Democrat,he is Hawaii's longest-serving governor and the first American of Asian descent to serve as governor of a U.S. state. He assumed gubernatorial powers and duties when Governor John A. Burns was declared incapacitated in October 1973 and was elected in 1974,becoming the first Asian-American to be elected governor of a U.S. state or territory. His lengthy tenure is a record likely to remain unbroken due to term limits enacted after he left office. Ariyoshi is now considered an elder statesman of the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi.
Patsy Matsu Mink was an American attorney and politician from the U.S. state of Hawaii. She served in the United States House of Representatives for 24 years as a member of the Democratic Party,initially from 1965 to 1977,and again from 1990 until her death in 2002. She was the first woman of color and the first Asian-American woman elected to Congress,and is known for her work on legislation advancing women's rights and education.
Mazie Keiko Hirono is an American lawyer and politician serving since 2013 as the junior United States senator from Hawaii. A member of the Democratic Party,Hirono previously served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district from 2007 to 2013. William Shaw Richardson was an American attorney,political figure,and chief justice of the Hawaii State Supreme Court from 1966 to 1982.
