Kurt Fevella (born October 1,1967) is an American politician serving as a member of the Hawaii Senate,representing the 19th District since 2018. His victory in 2018 made him the only state senator not affiliated with the Democratic Party,and the first Republican elected to the Hawaii State Senate since Sam Slom in 2014.
Fevella was born and raised in Ewa Beach,graduating from James Campbell High School. [1] Before running for office,Fevella was a school custodian at Ewa Makai Middle School. [2] He became interested in community service and politics after he began attending church during the 1990s. He served on the Ewa Neighborhood board and is the president of the Ewa Lions Club. Fevella ran in 2012 for District 40 of the Hawaii House of Representatives and lost. In 2018,Fevella defeated state Representative Matt LoPresti to represent District 19 in the Hawaii Senate by 116 votes in an upset. [4] [5]

A member of the Democratic Party,he has served as the U.S. representative for Hawaii's 1st congressional district since 2019,which covers the urban core of Honolulu. He represented the 2nd district,which covers the rest of the state,from 2002 to 2007.
Hiram Leong Fong was an American businessman,lawyer,and politician from Hawaii. Born to a Cantonese immigrant sugar plantation worker,Fong was one of the first two senators for Hawaii after it became the 50th US state in 1959. He was the first Chinese-American and first Asian-American United States Senator,serving from 1959 to 1977,and to date he remains to be the only Republican Senator from Hawaii.
Mazie Keiko Hirono is an American lawyer and politician serving since 2013 as the junior United States senator from Hawaii. A member of the Democratic Party,Hirono previously served as a member of the United States House of Representatives for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district from 2007 to 2013. Hirono also served as a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1981 to 1995 and as Hawaii's tenth lieutenant governor from 1994 to 2002,under Ben Cayetano. She was the Democratic nominee for governor of Hawaii in 2002,but lost to Republican Linda Lingle.
Gerald Michael Gabbard is an American politician,serving as the Hawaii State Senator for District 21 from the Democratic party,since 2006. Gabbard rose to prominence for efforts to prevent same-sex marriage in Hawaii by passing a 1998 amendment to the Constitution of Hawaii to give the state legislature "the power to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples" under the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Gabbard,who was born in American Samoa,is the first person of Samoan descent to serve in the Hawaii Senate.
