Casey Wei (born 1985) is a Vancouver based artist working on multidisciplinary art, film and music. [1]

Life

Casey Wei was born in 1985 in Shanghai. She finished her MFA degree in SFU in 2012 [2] and made her first film Murky Colors [3] which was based on her father Menjin Wei’s novel. In 2014, her video work Vater und Sohn/Father and Son/父与子 (2014) was screened in The Cinematheque as part of the DIM cinema program. [4] In Wei’s film, she explored the relationship between family, memories and history by collaging self-shoot and appropriated footage. [5]

Art practice

Started in film making, Casey Wei has gone on to work across disciplines such as music, art and performance. In 2015, she started the label Agony Klub which includes music and printed matter under the framework of “popularesoteric”, as a space to push the boundary between rock show and gallery. [6] In 2017, Casey Wei held an event called Karaoke Video Maker Free Store [7] that provided music video making for visitors.

"The Cruel Angel's Thesis", also known as "A Cruel Angel's Thesis", is a J-pop song performed by Japanese singer Yoko Takahashi. Toshiyuki Ōmori and Hidetoshi Satō composed the song, while Neko Oikawa wrote the lyrics. It was written for the opening theme of the anime television series Neon Genesis Evangelion, and was released as a double-A-sided single with "Fly Me to the Moon", the show's closing theme, on October 25, 1995. "The Cruel Angel's Thesis" was also included in the series' soundtrack releases and Takahashi's albums.

Wei Wei is a Chinese mandopop singer, actress, philanthropist and professor. Nicknamed "The Empress of Pop", she has been widely recognized for her artistry and vocal performances. She has been regarded as one of the greatest Chinese entertainers of her generation, and her contributions to music and visual media have made her a prominent and influential Chinese pop culture figure during the 1990's and early 2000s.

Peach Pit is an indie pop band from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The band consists of singer and rhythm guitarist Neil Smith, lead guitarist Christopher Vanderkooy, bassist Peter Wilton, and drummer Mikey Pascuzzi. Artdocfest is an international festival of original documentary films. Artdocfest presents the brightest non-format documentaries of all genres. It was established in 2007 by the Directorate of the Russian national non-fiction films award "Lavrovaya vetv". Artdocfest is held annually in Moscow (Russia), in the first decade of December. Since 2014, it has also been held in Saint Petersburg (Russia) and Riga (Latvia).
