Casimiro "Ito" Martin Ynares Jr. (born August 25, 1946) is a Filipino politician who served as Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog from 2021 until 2022. [1] He previously served as the governor of Rizal from 1992 to 2001, and again from 2004 until 2007. He also served as the mayor of Binangonan before he became governor of Rizal.

Early life

He was born on August 25, 1946, to Casimiro Ynares Sr., who became mayor of Binangonan from 1945 to 1946, and again from 1952 until 1956; and to Consolacion Martin-Ynares. She has three siblings: retired Associate Judge Consuelo Ynares-Santiago, Binangonan Mayor Cesar Ynares, and Binangonan Vice Mayor Cecilio Ynares. [2]

Political career

Mayor of Binangonan

He started his career when he was elected as mayor of Binangonan from 1971 until 1986. He was deposed in 1986. He ran again in 1988 as mayor and won, serving until 1992. [3]

Governor of Rizal

He served as governor from 1992 until 2001. He was replaced by his wife, Rebecca Ynares. On 2004, he ran again as governor and served from 2004 until 2007. He was supposed to run for re-election, but he was replaced by his son, then-Laguna Lake Development Authority general manager Casimiro Ynares III. [4]

First Supposedly Bid for Rizal Governor

He was supposedly to seek provincial governorship comeback in 2013, but he dropped his candidacy and he was substituted by his wife. [5]

Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog

In 2021, he was appointed by then-President Rodrigo Duterte as the Presidential Adviser for Southern Tagalog. [6] He later resigned and filed his candidacy as governor of Rizal. [7]

Second Supposedly Bid for Rizal Governor

He was supposedly to run as governor in 2022, but he dropped his bid and later substituted by his daughter, then-GSIS Board of Trustee Nina Ynares-Chiongbian. [8]

June 11 of every year has been institutionalized as “Araw ng Lalawigan ng Rizal.”

The province's Foundation Day is celebrated every June 11 with fitting ceremonies rekindling its glorious past. It is observed as a Special Non-Working Holiday in the entire province through a Proclamation issued by the President of the Philippines.

Personal life

He is married to Rebecca Alcantara-Ynares and they have two children: Nina Ynares-Chiongbian and Casimiro Ynares III, who were both elected as governors of Rizal. His wife also became governor who served from 2001 until 2004, and again from 2013 until 2022. [9]
