Caswain Mason (born 12 February 1978) is a Vincentian former footballer who played as a midfielder.

Club career

Mason played in the Toronto and District Soccer League in 2000 with GS United. [1] For the remainder of the 2000 season, he played with the Toronto Olympians of the Canadian Professional Soccer League. [2]

In 2001, he played in the USL A-League with the Toronto Lynx. [3] [4] [5] He appeared in 14 matches in his debut season and recorded one goal. [6] After a season in the A-League, he returned to the CPSL to sign with the Metro Lions. [7] He assisted the Scarborough-based team in securing a playoff berth by finishing second in the Eastern Conference. [8]

He re-signed with the Metros for the 2003 season. [9] [10] He appeared in the 2003 Open Canada Cup final where the Lions were defeated by London City in a penalty shootout. [11] Mason returned to Toronto in 2004 for his third and final season with the club. [12] [13] Throughout the season he was named into the CPSL all-star team that would face Boavista FC. [14] He also featured in a notable friendly match against Portmore United F.C. where the proceeds went to the Hurricane Ivan relief fund and in the match he recorded the winning goal. [15] [16]

In 2005, he was transferred to league rivals Toronto Croatia along with Hayden Fitzwilliams. [17] [18] In his debut season with Croatia, he assisted the club in securing a playoff spot. [19] He returned to Toronto the following season and was selected to the All-Star team for the second time in his career and played against Clyde F.C. [20]

He played abroad in the I-League with Mahindra United in 2007. [21] After a season in India he returned to the CSL to play with the Canadian Lions; making his debut on September 19, 2007, against Trois-Rivieres Attak. [22] After the relocation of the Canadian Lions, he signed with league rivals Serbian White Eagles for the 2008 season. [23] In his debut season with the Serbs, he assisted in securing the CSL Championship by defeating Trois-Rivieres in a penalty shootout. [24] [25]

International career

Mason made his debut for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines national football team on May 23, 2004, against Saint Kitts and Nevis. [26] [21] He was also selected for the match against Martinique on May 28, 2004, but failed to make an appearance. [27] He made another appearance for the national team on February 10, 2008 against Grenada. [21]

The team relocated to Oshawa, Ontario in Durham Region for the 2004 and 2005 seasons and was renamed Durham Storm.

Trois-Rivières Attak was a Canadian soccer team that played three seasons in the Canadian Soccer League. They formally served as a reserve and academy team for the USL First Division side Montreal Impact. The club was an instant success within the league, winning titles in all three seasons when it competed in the CSL. In 2010, when the Montreal Impact founded their own academy the team ceased operating as a farm team, because of the ended cooperation with the Impact; they announced that they would take a one-year absence from the Canadian Soccer League in 2010 and return for the 2011 season. The team did not return for the 2011 season.

The 2008 Canadian Soccer League season was the 11th since its establishment where a total of 16 teams from Ontario and Quebec took part in the league. The season began on May 16, 2008, and ended on October 26 with the Serbian White Eagles claiming their first championship by defeating Trois-Rivières Attak 2-1 in a penalty shootout. This was the third consecutive year the White Eagles had reached the CSL finals losing respectively to Italia Shooters in 2006, and to rivals Toronto Croatia in 2007. While during the regular season Italia won their second division title with Trois-Rivières becoming the first Quebec team to claim the National Division title.

The Canadian Soccer League Golden Boot is an annual Canadian soccer award given to the top goalscorer for each season in the Canadian Soccer League. The Golden Boot was awarded in 1998 when the Canadian National Soccer League merged with the stillborn Ontario Professional Soccer League to form the Canadian Professional Soccer League. The highest ranked CSL Golden Boot goalscorer is Gus Kouzmanis with 33 goals during the league's inaugural season. Kouzmanis and Serhiy Ivlyev have won the award the most times (2) with Kouzmanis in the 1998, and 2000 seasons and Ivlyev in the 2016 and 2023 seasons. The 2009 Canadian Soccer League season was the 12th since its establishment where a total of 17 teams from Ontario and Quebec took part in the league. The season began on May 15, 2008, and ended on October 24 where for the second straight season the Serbian White Eagles faced Trois-Rivières Attak at the CSL Championship. The Attak denied Serbia their championship title by defeating them 3-2 in a penalty shootout. The victory marked the organizations first championship title, and the return of the championship to Quebec since the 1978 season when Montreal Castors competed in the National Soccer League. Throughout the regular season both Serbia, and Trois-Rivieres won their respective divisions.

The 2010 Canadian Soccer Leagueseason was the 13th since its establishment where a total of 24 teams from Ontario and Quebec took part in the league. The season began on Saturday May 8, 2010, and ended on October 31. Brantford Galaxy SC won their first championship in their inaugural season with a 3–0 win over Hamilton Croatia in the CSL Championship Final at the Centennial Park Stadium in Toronto on October 31, 2010. The CSL administration restructured the league by combining both the International & National divisions to form the CSL First Division with a single table structure. The regular season title was claimed by the York Region Shooters, while the Serbian White Eagles Res. won their first reserve league championship.
