Catherine Mbabazi commonly known as Cathy Patra is a Ugandan dancer, choreographer, fashion model and businesswoman. She won the Best Choreography in Africa award and her group RVC won Best Dancing Group in Africa at the 2021 Zikomo Awards in Zambia. [2] [3]

Life and career

Cathy Patra was born in Nsambya Hospital to Mr.Mwesigwa Emmanuel and Mrs. Mwesigwa Rose. She is the fourth of the six children in her family. She went to Old Kampala Primary School, Mbarara Army Boarding Secondary School(MABSS) for her O Level, then Bombo Secondary School for A Level. She then attended Ndejje University and did a Certificate in Accounting and Finance and then upgraded to Bachelor of Business Administration. Started dancing in her earliest teenage years at family gatherings and school before joining a professional church group called Miracle Teens at Miracle Centre Church in 2004. In 2014, she founded her own dance group called RVC. She soon afterwards co-owned The Fix Cosmetics in Kampala with Georgine Komuhendo, then Red Events Ltd with Sheebah Karungi and a number of other businesses in Kampala. [4] [5] [6]

She used dance to showcase issues woman face in our society for example access to education, inequality at work places, domestic violence, skills and knowledge empowerment, sexual harassment in the entertainment industry at Nation Theatre Uganda in a dance production titled I am Female. She has choreographed for Sheebah, Rema and Spice Diana. [7] [8] [9] [10]

Nominations and awards

Patra won the Best Choreographer in Africa award and her dance group RVC won Best Dancing Group in Africa at Zikomo Awards in Zambia in 2021. Best Dressed Female on East Africa Fashion Awards Blue Carpet 2020, Best Female Dancer Sweet Heart Awards 2016. [11] [12]

Starting off his music career, Flex D'Paper was part of the high school rap group, The Rapaholix, which he started with friends, Dasper Cosine and later joined by Apass as an affiliate with whom the trio put out a mix tape, The Eviction Notice that included chart topping singles like "Burning", "Party Life" and "Follow Me" which topped countdowns in Uganda such as NTV and Sanyu FM. Sheebah Karungi, professional also known as Queen Karma and Sheebah, is a Ugandan Musician, Dancer, Actress and Feminist activist. She debuted her acting career in Queen of Katwe as Shakira. After quitting Obsessions, a dance group she joined in 2006, she started making music and later rose to recognition upon the release of her hit single "Ice Cream". In 2014, she released her debut project Ice Cream, a five-track EP which did well commercially and led her to win back-to-back HiPipo Music Awards Best Female Artist in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award twice, in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards.

Hellen Lukoma is a Ugandan, actress, model, fashion designer and singer. She is well known for her roles as Patra on The Hostel, Hellen Mutungi on Beneath The Lies, kyaddala. She rose to fame as a member of the all girl music group The Obsessions before venturing into modelling, fashion design and acting.

Bed of Thorns (#Tosirika) is a Ugandan, all-female crew produced drama film directed by Eleanor Nabwiso and produced at Nabwiso Films. The film addresses the issue of gender based and domestic violence. It stars media personality Malaika Tenshi Nnyanzi, Diana Kahunde, youtuber and social media comedian Martha Kay, Agnes Kebirungi, Michael Wawuyo Jr., Housen Mushema, Sara Kisawuzi and Patrick Salvador Idringi. The film premiered on 30 March 2019 at a red carpet event at Century Cinema Kamwokya, Kampala.

Eleanor Vaal Nansibo Nabwiso is a Ugandan actress, producer, director and television personality. She is known for her work on The Hostel, Rain, Beneath the Lies - The Series and Bed of Thorns as the director. She also owns a production company called Nabwiso Films which she set up together with her husband Matthew Nabwiso.

A Kalabanda Ate My Homework is a Ugandan animation short film created by Robin Malinga and directed by his blood brother Raymond Malinga. The film stars Martha Kay, Faith Kisa with Patrick Salvador Idringi and Daniel Omara. It tells a story of Tendo a primary school pupil who came to school without her homework and when asked why she didn't hand in her homework, she gives an excuse that a Kalabanda ate her homework.

Malaika Tenshi Nnyanzi professionally known by her mononym as Malaika is a Ugandan actress, media personality, model and fashionista. She is mostly known for her radio work on the D’Mighty Breakfast show on KFM and Malaika and Oulanya on Capital Fm as well as her acting work on Veronica's Wish, Bed of Thorns, The Honourables and Mela.

Abbas Kaijuka is a Ugandan fashion designer, stylist and fashion collector known for his brand Kai's Divo. He is a recipient of the East Africa’s Male Fashion Designer of the Year award at the 2020 East Africa Fashion Awards and the Fashion Designer of the Year award at the 2016 Abryanz Style & Fashion Awards and received various nominations including the East African Designer of the year award at the 2017 Swahili Fashion Week.

Priscilla Zawedde better known by her stage name Azawi is a Ugandan singer, songwriter and dancer signed by Swangz Avenue in 2019. Her musical genre is Afrobeats in both Luganda and English. She became the first female Ugandan act to appear on the New York "Times Square" and Los Angeles billboards.

Rahmah Pinky is a Ugandan musician and once an artist from Team No Sleep (TNS). She was signed to replace Sheebah Karungi, who quit the record label.

Doreen Kabareebe is a Ugandan fashion model, socialite, branding coach and social media influencer. She was one of the contestants in the Miss Uganda beauty pageant in 2010.
