The Cebu Casino Ethyl Alcohol [1] was a Filipino amateur basketball team based in the province of Cebu. The team last competed in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and played their home games in multiple venues across the province.

Contents

The team began play in the 2018–19 season as the Cebu City Sharks and have been inactive following the 2019–20 season.

The team was owned by International Pharmaceuticals Incorporated with sponsorship from Casino Ethyl Alcohol. [4]

History

The Cebu City Sharks were one of sixteen expansion teams in the 2018–19 MPBL season, as well as the first team based in Visayas. That season saw Cebu make the playoffs despite having a losing record, they eventually lost to the Davao Occidental Tigers.

In the 2019–20 season, the team finished ninth, one game behind the eighth-place team in the South Division, the Bicol Volcanoes.

The Cebu franchise was among the teams that were set to return for the 2023 season, [5] but ultimately did not make the final cut.

Poligrates found success in his return to the PBA D-League, winning the 2015 Foundation Cup championship with the Cafe France Bakers and the 2019 Foundation Cup Most Valuable Player (MVP) award with Marinerong Pilipino. It was also the last season of the league's semi-professional era, as they would turn professional in December 2021. The regular season began June 12, 2019 and ended on February 12, 2020.
