Cecilia Marfo is a Ghanaian gospel musician, preacher, and worship leader, known for her work in gospel music and church ministry. [1]
Cecilia Marfo was born on 20 November 1978 in Bompata, Asafo Nfante Newtown, Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. [1]
She was raised in a Christian environment and was active in church music from an early age. At one point, gospel singer Esther Smith reportedly heard her sing during a church program and recommended her to a music producer. [2]
Cecilia Marfo has been active in Ghana’s gospel music scene. She is known for leading worship, evangelism, and conducting church services. Over time she founded and oversaw a church congregation, which at one point had over 400 members. [3] [4] [5]
She has spoken in interviews about decline in her church membership, attributing the decrease—from around 400 to about 40 members—to rumours and negative publicity involving public figures and other gospel musicians. [6]
Marfo has also made remarks about how pastors and religious leaders should treat sinners, urging compassion and encouragement rather than condemnation. [7]
In 2011, Cecilia Marfo was nominated for seven awards at the MTN Ghana Music Awards. The nominations included categories such as Artist of the Year, Gospel Song of the Year, Most Popular Song of the Year, and Best Female Vocal Performance. [8] [9] [10]
Also in 2011, she won Best Gospel Song of the Year at the MTN Ghana Music Awards. [9]
She has been nominated under the Africa Gospel Music Awards (AGMA).
In 2011, she was nominated in categories including Overall Best Female Artiste and Best Artiste (West Africa). [11]
At the Ghana Gospel Industry Awards, she received nominations in multiple categories, including Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Artiste of the Year, Popular Video of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year, Best Gospel Song of the Year, and Collaboration of the Year. [12]
Cecilia Marfo is married to Clement Kofi Yeboah Adupedie, and together they have three children—two daughters and one son. [13] [14]
