Ceylon Steel Corporation is one of the three industrial projects along with Ceylon Tyre Corporation and Ceylon Sugar Corporation, which were established in Sri Lanka by the support of Soviet Union during the Cold War era.

After winning the 1960 parliamentary election, [1] Sirimavo Bandaranayake continued with the pro-socialist vision of her late husband and further strengthen Sri Lanka's relations with socialist countries. The Ceylon Steel Corporation was started in 1962 under the supervision of Maithripala Senanayake who was the Commerce and Industrial Minister of her government. [2] A. N. S. Kulasinghe was appointed the first director of the organisation. In 1996 the organisation was sold to Hanjung Steel, now a member of the Doosan Group of South Korea [3] [4] during the period President Chandrika Bandaranayaka, who is the daughter of founder Sirimavo Bandaranayaka. In 2009 the company was acquired by the UAE-based Onyx Group which is owned by the Sri Lankan businessperson Sri Lanka Investment Corporation and re-branded as "Ceylon Steel" Corporation Limited. [5] [6] On 2020 Lanwa Sanstha announced they plan to build massive cement corporation under the name of Lanwa Sanstha Cement Corporation. The company aimed at 2.4 million tonnes of cement production in 2021. This facility is located in Mirijjawila Export Processing Zone, Hambantota. The investment for phase 1 of the project was estimated to be US$70 million. [7]

Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, commonly known as CEYPETCO (CPC), is a Sri Lankan oil and gas company. Established in 1962 and wholly owned by the Government of Sri Lanka, it is the largest oil company in Sri Lanka. It was formed in 1961 by nationalisation and expropriation of all private oil companies in Sri Lanka at the time of its formation. It is under the ownership of Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development headquartered in Colombo. It is the largest government owned company in the country, with an operational profit of Rs. 33.9 billion for the financial year 2020.

The company offers engine oils, gear oils, transmission oils under the brand name Havoline while offering diesel vehicle engine oils, industrial lubricants, coolants, brake fluids under the brand name Delo. For the financial year 2019/20, Chevron Lubricants Lanka was ranked 67th in LMD 100, a list of listed companies by revenue in Sri Lanka.

Tokyo Cement Company (Lanka) PLC is a Sri Lankan cement manufacturing company headquartered in Colombo. The company is engaged in manufacturing Portland cement, Pozzolana cement, tile adhesives and other cement products. Sri Lankan entrepreneur, A. Y. S. Gnanam founded the company in 1982. Tokyo Cement Company is a quoted company on the Colombo Stock Exchange since 1984. The company was one of the components of the S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index until June 2022. L B Finance PLC sometimes spelt LB Finance, is a Sri Lankan non-bank financial institution. The company is incorporated in 1971 and initially, the majority of shares were held by Lewis Brown & Company. The company was listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange in 1997. In 2003, Dhammika Perera acquired the company and became a subsidiary of Vallibel One. Currently, the company is one of the components of the S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index. Brand Finance ranked the company 24th in the 100 most valuable brands in Sri Lanka. The company placed 39th in the LMD 100 for the financial year 2019/20.

Brown and Company PLC, sometimes called Browns Group, is a conglomerate holding company in Sri Lanka. The company was founded by James Brown, a 25-year-old engineer and mechanic from London who arrived in Ceylon in 1872. In 1892, the company was incorporated and in 1991 the company became a listed company on the Colombo Stock Exchange. The company was included in S&P Sri Lanka 20 Index in June 2021. Ceylon Hotels Corporation PLC, often called Ceylon Hotels, is a hospitality company in Sri Lanka. The company was incorporated through an Act of the Parliament of Ceylon in 1966. The company was listed as a public company in the following year. Ceylon Hotel Holdings, a subsidiary of Galle Face Hotels Group is the holding company of Ceylon Hotels Corporation. Ceylon Hotels' subsidiary, Kandy Hotels Company owns and operates the Queen's Hotel and the Hotel Suisse heritage hotels.
