Chanan Singh is an Indian-American electrical engineer and professor in the department of electrical and computer engineering, Texas A&M University. [1] He was named Irma Runyon Chair Professor and Texas A&M System Regents Professor.
Singh got his M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada and B.Sc. (honors) from the Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, India. [2]
From 1997 to 2005 he served as the department head of electrical and computer engineering at Texas A&M and later, from 2012 to 2015, he served as interim head. He has held a position as a guest professor at Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. He has also served as program director at the National Science Foundation of US. He is also a principal and Vice-President of Associated Power Analysts Inc. a firm that specializes in developing software and conducting reliability studies of the electric power grid. Before joining Texas A&M University he worked in the R&D Division of Ontario Ministry of Transportation and Communications on the development of innovative public transit systems.
Singh is known for his contributions to electric power system reliability evaluation, particularly in developing the theoretical foundations for frequency and duration methods, non-Markovian models, modeling of interconnected power systems, integration of renewable resources and machine learning method for reliability analysis of large power systems. He is author/co-author of four books, several book chapters, and over 400 technical articles.
Edith Clarke was an American electrical engineer. She was the first woman to be professionally employed as an electrical engineer in the United States, and the first female professor of electrical engineering in the country. She was the first woman to deliver a paper at the American Institute of Electrical Engineers; the first female engineer whose professional standing was recognized by Tau Beta Pi, the oldest engineering honor society and the second oldest collegiate honor society in the United States; and the first woman named as a Fellow of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers. She specialized in electrical power system analysis and wrote Circuit Analysis of A-C Power Systems.

Roy Billinton is a Canadian scholar and a Distinguished Emeritus Professor at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. In 2008, Billinton won the IEEE Canada Electric Power Medal for his research and application of reliability concepts in electric power system. In 2007, Billinton was elected a Foreign Associate of the United States National Academy of Engineering for "contributions to teaching, research and application of reliability engineering in electric power generation, transmission, and distribution systems."
Claes Göran Andersson is a Swedish academic. He was a full Professor of Power Systems in the Department of Information Technology, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2010–2016 and is now emeritus. He is a Fellow of the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences, Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences. He was also elected as an International Member of the US National Academy of Engineering in 2016 for contributions to the development of high-voltage direct current (HVDC) technology and methods of power system voltage stability analysis.

Mangalore Anantha Pai was an Indian electrical engineer, academic and a Professor Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign. A former professor of electrical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, he is known for his contributions in the fields of power stability, power grids, large scale power system analysis, system security and optimal control of nuclear reactors and he has published 8 books and several articles. Pai is the first India born scientist to be awarded a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.

He was with Colorado School of Mines, in Golden, Colorado, for almost 21 years, where he is a Professor Emeritus. He was elevated to Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) for applications of artificial intelligence in control of power electronics systems.
Mark Gerald Lauby is an electrical engineer working for the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) in Atlanta, Georgia where he is Senior Vice President and Chief Engineer. Lauby was named a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) in 2012 for his work in the development and application of techniques for bulk power system reliability. He also received the IEEE PES Roy Billinton Award in 2014 for his contribution to reliability of electric power systems and currently is a committee member for the award. In 2020, the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) elected Mr. Lauby as a member, citing his development and application of techniques for electrical grid reliability analysis.

Loss of load in an electrical grid is a term used to describe the situation when the available generation capacity is less than the system load. Multiple probabilistic reliability indices for the generation systems are using loss of load in their definitions, with the more popular being Loss of Load Probability (LOLP) that characterizes a probability of a loss of load occurring within a year. Loss of load events are calculated before the mitigating actions are taken, so a loss of load does not necessarily cause a blackout.
