Notable alumni who have held senior positions in Chinese politics include current general secretary and president of China, Xi Jinping, [195] former general secretary and president of China Hu Jintao, [196] former chairman of the National People's Congress Wu Bangguo, [197] former premier Zhu Rongji, [198] and the former first vice premier Huang Ju. [199] This also includes politicians like Wu Guanzheng, [200] former governor of the People's Bank of China Zhou Xiaochuan, [201] former minister of finance Lou Jiwei, [202] general Sun Li-jen, Liang Qichao, [203] and more. Since 2016, Tsinghua graduates who have political prominence are disproportionately greater in number than graduates of other famous universities. [204]

Notable alumni in the sciences include Nobel laureate Yang Chen Ning, [205] who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work with Tsung-Dao Lee on parity nonconservation of weak interaction; mathematician and winner of the Wolf Prize in Mathematics Shiing-Shen Chern, [206] biologist Min Chueh Chang, [207] theoretical physicist Zhou Peiyuan, astronomer Zhang Yuzhe, Leslie Ying, professor at the University at Buffalo and Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Medical Imaging, [208] James G. Dwyer Professor of Mechanical Engineering Qingyan Chen, [209] architect and general director at the Beijing branch of the ISA Internationales Stadtbauatelier Yajin Zhang, [210] Jianhua Lu, [211] anthropologist Fei Xiaotong, sociologist and ethnologist Wu Wenzao, political scientist K. C. Hsiao, [212] and Pan Guangdan.

Tsinghua is known for having educated the most billionaires of any university in China, and since 2017 counts 152 billionaires amongst its alumni. [213] These include billionaires Sun Hongbin (real estate), [214] chairman of Goertek Jiang Bin (components), [215] Xu Hang (medical devices), [216] and Zhang Zetian (e-commerce), [217] among others.

Notable alumni in the arts and poetry include author Qian Zhongshu, [218] Wen Yiduo, historian and poet Wang Guowei, and Chen Yinke. [203]

Tsinghua clique

The term Tsinghua clique refers to a group of Communist Chinese politicians that have graduated from Tsinghua University. They are members of the fourth generation of Chinese leadership, and are purported to hold reformist and hesitantly pro-democratic ideas (a number have studied in the United States following graduation from Tsinghua, and some are said to be influenced by the reform ideals of Hu Yaobang). In the PRC, their ascendance to power began in 2008 at the 17th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. [219]

Xidian University is a public research university in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China, that is administered by the Ministry of Education of China. Xidian focuses on electronics and information education and research, and has programs covering engineering, computer science, management, economics, liberal arts and social sciences. Particularly, U.S. News & World Report in 2020 ranked its computer science at 8th nationally and 22nd globally. Xidian is a Chinese state Double First Class University Plan university. It was also funded by previously abolished Project 211.

Sun Yat-sen University University in Guangdong, China

Sun Yat-sen University, also known as Zhongshan University, is a national public research university located in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. It was founded in 1924 by and named after Sun Yat-sen, a revolutionary and the founder of the Republic of China. Its main campus, commonly referred to as the South Campus, is located in Haizhu District, Guangzhou, inheriting the campus from the former Lingnan University. The university has five campuses in the three cities of Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen, and ten affiliated hospitals. It is a member of the nation's Double First Class University Plan, former Project 985, and Project 211 for leading research universities.

Jilin University University in Changchun, Jilin, China

Jilin University is a leading national research university located in Changchun, China. It is under the direct jurisdiction of China's Ministry of Education. It is a Chinese Ministry of Education Class A Double First Class University. It is strongly supported by state key projects such as Double First Class University Plan, former Project 985, Project 211 and Project 2011. Jilin University is consistently ranked as one of the most prestigious universities in China, and has research projects in automobile engineering, chemistry, computer science, electrical engineering and biology be identified as internationally renowned. In 2017, the university is supported to achieve Class A "world-class" academic status under the Double First Class University Plan by China. JLU's alumni include the Vice Premier of the People's Republic of China Liu Yandong.

Wuhan University University in Wuhan, China

Wuhan University is a national research university located in Wuhan, Hubei. It is one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China, and was recognized by the Chinese central government as a Class A Double First Class University. It was one of the four elite universities in the early Republican period and is also one of the oldest universities in China. Wuhan University is located at Luojia Hill, with palatial buildings blending Chinese and Western styles. It is regarded by many as one of the most beautiful campuses in China.

Huazhong University of Science and Technology Research University in Wuhan, Hubei, China

The Huazhong University of Science and Technology is a public research university located in Guanshan Subdistrict, Hongshan District, Wuhan, Hubei province, China. As a national key university directly affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China, HUST is a Project 985 and Class A Double First Class University. HUST manages Wuhan National Laboratories for Opto-electronics (WNLO), which is one of the five national laboratories in China. HUST is also one of four Chinese universities eligible to run the national laboratory and the national major science and technology infrastructure. Huazhong University of Science and Technology was one of two Chinese universities awarded with the University Leadership Award by the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and elected as "China's Top Ten Research Institutions" by the academic journal Nature, called "The epitome of the higher education development of People's Republic of China".

Tsinghua University High School Public school in Beijing, China

Tsinghua University High School, or Tsinghua High School for short, is a high school in China, located in Beijing. Based on its current status, a more precise translation should be 'The secondary school affiliated to Tsinghua University'. In a 2016 ranking of Chinese high schools that send students to study in American universities, Tsinghua University High School ranked number 10 in mainland China in terms of the number of students entering top American universities.

The Technology Transfer Center of Zhejiang University, currently is the largest university technology transfer center in the People's Republic of China. It's the main technology transfer department of the Zhejiang University in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.

North University of China

North University of China is a university based in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, China. It was formerly known as North China Institute of Technology from 1993 to 2004. Founded on September 8, 1941 as Taihang Industrial School, and renamed Taiyuan Institute of Machinery in 1958, the university played an important role in the weaponry development and personnel training for the PLA during the Second Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. In 2001, senior Party official Bo Yibo wrote the inscription "The First School for People's Ordnance" (人民兵工第一校) at the 60th anniversary of the university.

China University of Petroleum University in China

The China University of Petroleum is a state Double First Class University in China. It consists of China University of Petroleum (Beijing), and China University of Petroleum (Huadong). Both are regarded as the best universities in China according to the QS World University Rankings by Subjects in "Petroleum Engineering" subjects. It is placed under the administration of the Ministry of Education. The China University of Petroleum is a Chinese state Double First Class University included in the Double First Class University Plan, approved by the central government of China.

Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute Institute in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China

Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute (TBSI) is an institute which was established in Shenzhen, China in 2014 according to an agreement signed by Tsinghua University, University of California, Berkeley, and the Shenzhen government.

Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School University in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China

Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School is a public university established by Tsinghua University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government as a joint venture in 2001. It is located in the University Town of Shenzhen, surrounded by Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School and the Harbin Institute of Technology Shenzhen.

Double First Class University Plan Chinese university development plan

The World First Class UniversityandFirst Class Academic Discipline Construction, together known as Double First Class, is a tertiary education development initiative designed by the People's Republic of China central government in 2015, which aims to comprehensively develop elite Chinese universities into world-class institutions by the end of 2050 through developing and strengthening their individual faculty departments. The Double First-Class University Plan has made new arrangements for the Chinese higher education institution development. The universities included in this plan are called Double First Class Universities.

Wu Minsheng was a Chinese mechanical engineer. He served as Dean of Tsinghua University and President of Fuzhou University (2002–2010).

Xi'an University of Technology is a provincial public comprehensive university in Xi'an, Shaanxi, China. The university is co-sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Shaanxi Provincial Government.

Zheng Weimin is a Chinese engineer specializing in computer architecture. He is a professor at Tsinghua University and formerly served as its director of High Performance Computing Institute between 2000 and 2008.

Zhuang Weimin is a Chinese architect who is a professor and dean of the School of Architecture, Tsinghua University. He is a member of the International Union of Architects (UIA), China Green Building Association (CGBA), APEC Architect Project Monitoring Committee, Architectural Society of China (ASC), and UIA International Professional Practice Commission.

You Zheng is a Chinese engineer who is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a former vice president of Tsinghua University, and currently present of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

Wang Xiqin is a Chinese educator and the current president of Tsinghua University, in office since 25 February 2022.
