The Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is a consortium of 61 research universities in 17 economies of the Pacific Rim. Formed in 1997, [1] APRU fosters collaboration between member universities, researchers, and policymakers contributing to economic, scientific and cultural advancement in the Pacific Rim. Its international secretariat is located at the Cyberport in Hong Kong.

International Secretariat

Headed by the Chief Executive, the APRU International Secretariat coordinates the agenda and programs of APRU. The Secretariat also plays an instrumental role in driving APRU's communications and global outreach. The Secretariat is currently based in Hong Kong and located at the Cyberport.

Shih Choon Fong is a Singaporean college administrator and fracture mechanics expert who served as the founding president of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) between 2008 and 2013. Prior joining KAUST as its founding president, he was the president of the National University of Singapore (NUS) for nine years and has been widely acknowledged for creating the university's research-intensive focus with an entrepreneurial dimension, as well as for NUS' elevated global reputation. Drawing from his experiences abroad, Shih institutionalised a performance- and market-based evaluation and compensation system for academics.

Henry Tzu-Yow Yang is a Taiwanese-American mechanical engineer, university administrator, and the fifth and current chancellor of the University of California, Santa Barbara, a post he has held since 1994.

Hon. John Estmond Strickland, GBS, JP, the former chairman of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd. (1996–1998) with responsibility for HSBC's operations in Asia Pacific, was a Hong Kong-based businessman and philanthropist. He joined HSBC in Hong Kong in 1970, and was in charge of IT development and strategy, globally, and helped develop HSBC's core banking systems.

The Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited (ASTRI) was established by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in 2000 as an R&D centre for information and communications technologies. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Philip Chen Nan-lok</span> Hong Kong businessman

Philip Chen Nan-lok, GBS, JP is a Hong Kong businessman, best known for being the first local Hong Kong Chinese Chief Executive Officer and later Deputy Chairman of Cathay Pacific. He has also held a number of senior business posts in Hong Kong, such as Executive Director of Swire Pacific, Chairman of Ocean Park, and Chief Executive Officer of Hang Lung Group and Hang Lung Properties. He was appointed Chairman of the Hong Kong Jockey Club in June 2020.
