A succubus is a demon or supernatural entity in folklore, in female form, that appears in dreams to seduce men, usually through sexual activity. According to religious traditions, repeated sexual activity with a succubus can cause poor physical or mental health, even death.

John Constantine, Hellblazer is an American contemporary horror comic book series published by DC Comics since January 1988, and subsequently by its Vertigo imprint since March 1993 when the imprint was introduced. Well known for its political and social commentary, the series has spawned a film adaptation, television show, novels, and multiple spin-offs and crossovers.

The film portrays John Constantine as a cynic with the ability to perceive and communicate with half-angels and half-demons in their true form. He seeks salvation from eternal damnation in Hell for a suicide attempt in his youth. Constantine exorcises demons back to Hell to earn favor with Heaven but has become weary over time. With terminal lung cancer, he helps a troubled police detective learn the truth about her twin sister's death while simultaneously unraveling a much larger and darker plot.

The DC Comics location known as Hell is based heavily on its depiction in Abrahamic mythology. The Prophecy is an American fantasy horror-thriller film franchise, which focuses on Angels fighting each other to protect the survival of the human race on Earth. Dangerous Habits is a six-issue Hellblazer story arc written by Garth Ennis and art by Will Simpson published by DC Comics, later under their Vertigo imprint. Dangerous Habits collects issues #41-46 of the Hellblazer series. The story features the occult detective John Constantine, who at that time contracted terminal lung cancer, and subsequently conning the Lords of Hell to cure it, mixing contemporary horror with Faustian theme. The comic became a success, being well-received and was the best-selling Vertigo series of that time. It also catapulted Ennis's career in the American comic book industry.
